I bought a 2000 S10/Blazer 4X4 rear end because everyone says they will work and are virtually a clean swap. It turns out that my rear axle is 63" from each wheel mount surface. Crap!

Another option is the 78-87 g-body car rear. I haven't measured one in years and I think they're close to 58.5". The biggest drawback is the gear selection. You would need to replace them as they come in 2.29, 2.41 and 2.56. S-10s can be found with 3.42, 3.73 and 4.11
Make sure you measure the backing plate to backing plate width also; these frames seem to just clear these narrower rears. Good Luck

Update as promised, just late. I got a little time after work today and I snapped these, this is the work I did last Sunday.

Front and rear layed out. The rear frame will get sectioned so the car will lay rockers; if my math is correct.
I built these brackets with a chop saw and a grinder.
Front at approximate ride height. The sway bar is from a G-body GM, used for mock up purposes; I'll probably use a 1-1/4".

If you look at the first two pictures that I recently added you'll see that the frame is boxed, but not how you would typically see it. The frame is what’s called a “top hat” design. The top is a “U” shape with flanges and the bottom is a flat piece riveted to it, essentially boxing it.

Sorry guys, I've been real busy. I took these two weeks ago and never up loaded them. Last weekend was a bust and this weekend I started fabbing up the rear end and rear lowers to convert to a 4-link instead of the 2-link. I may even do a triangulated z-link. No pics of it yet.

Update. I got a little closer to getting the engine and trans ready for the chassis. Needed to finish the welding on the rear suspension. I ended up building a 3-link. I had to salvage the work I already did for the 2-link. I think it turned out ok. All the brackets I built using a chop saw and grinder.

Uh... "Everyone" is half right. There are two different width rear ends for the S-10s, you just happened to get the wrong one. Yours is the ZR4 code or something like that, its 4" wider than the other one that you need. Hopefully you can trade it for the other.

I wanted to do either the LT-1 or LT-4 in the past in my 86 Silverado, but I didn't think I could do it. When the LS engine came out I knew I had to get one. With the help from this site I maybe able to make this one work.

I tried updating last week, but had issues with my work computer. Anyway. I got a lot of work done the last couple weekends. I've got a roller now and have the body back on. I'll have to pull it back off for the floor board and wheel well replacement.
This is as low as I could get it before the wheel well modification. I had to cut them twice and I think I'll need a little more when the trailer fenders get here.
Here she is laying rockers. There's a lip under the rockers where all the sheet metal meets, I don't think I'll remove it.
Engine installed. I had to cut the trans tunnel quite a bit to get the 4L60E in there.
My nicely painted fuel tank is now a catch all and has a few bruises.
Cut wheel wells.
