Default Camaro gauge cluster in Fox mustang, tips and suggestions?

I'm getting ready to do a Camaro dash cluster swap in my 88 Mustang. Can anyone offer any suggestions or tips??

I am but im still unsure on the fuel gauge wiring.ive heard its easy and that its not so idk at this point.i may just run the stock cluster. Most of its pretty simple as far as the wiring.you do need to do some cutting to make the cluster fit but no biggie.I honestly probly won't mess with the fuel gauge till stuff till the motor and harness are in the car so I can do some testing.but when I do ill post up the info because this seems to be the one issue there is no clear answer on

I never messed with the oil pressure or fuel gauge when I did mine. Wiring the speedo, temp, tach, volts is really easy. If you do a search I think I did a small write up on it. The fuel gauge is a tad weird to me since i HATE electrical stuff and the ford volt outputs on the sending unit are different then fbody. I used a mechanical oil pressure gauge and was just gonna go by mileage for the fuel level.

Thanks guys, I thought the oil pressure got its reading from the PCM? Last night I thought about changing the sending unit in the tank to eliminate any programming drama. The camaro cluster works on 240-70 ohms or something like that don't they? I found a universal sending unit on summits web site for like $50, but then you would have to get it adjusted correctly to get it to work right .

Bout to go through this as we'll, except with a fuel cell with a generic 0-50 ohm "gm" sending unit.

I thought about that as well, the thing about the fbody gauge is it reads in milliamps instead of ohms so it needs the 5v ref and signal.i may use my fbody sending unit.but im gonna put a call in to lonnies,he mentioned in a old thread he can build sending units.

Just got off the phone with lonnie regarding sending units.he said that it should be pretty simple to make the ford sending unit work.basicly the signal wire would remain and then you would isolate the ground to use for the 5v ref.then then change the settings thru hp tuners. This is what I was looking at trying.not 100% if it will work but in theroy it should.maybe ill have to pull my tank and wire it up and try it out and if I can get it to work ill report back with a answer.also lonnie had a good point that I didnt think about,if using the gm sensor or aftermarket it may still be off due to the depth where the sensor is placed.

I wonder what would the scale for that would be. That universal sending unit is adjustable so you could set it. The Camaro cluster gas gauge is 240-33 ohms correct? Look at this sending unit from Summit VDO-226007

That would work I think.but the whole issue im seeing is that the gm stuff reads milliamps and not ohms which in lies my confusion. Iirc the sender is 240-33ohms but gets the info to the pcm in milliamps so its not strait up ohms. But kn theroy youd have to do the same with the aftermarket as mentioned above.

If I have a fox coupe and do an LS swap and have ecu and complete engine and body harness couldn't I just plug them together and plug my cluster up and everything work except for fuel and speedo?

yes but you could gut a stock camaro fuel unit and graft the sensor onto the stock mustang unit and run a wire and have a fuel gauge.

i had to redo that ground but other than that this works perfect. youll have to bend the float wire to fit whatever tank your using.

^ this. Fuel level sender swap is the way to go but that yellow plastic on your crimp connect there is going to dissolve into your gas.

Years shop Hot Rod or Car Craft did a detailed article on this, I'm sure some searching should turn up something
