Autometer Speedo Doesnt operate?
Drove the LS powered 78 Camaro today, everything seems good except, the Speedometer doesn't work. Before I had the LS, the Speedo was connected directly to the VSS and worked fine.
Now I have the LS, the VSS is incorporated into the harness and the speedometer is connected to the VSS signal wire from the PCM.
What could be the problem?

Have you tried re-calibrating it? When you calibrate it if it has a digital odometer, which it should I think, it will count off pulses. When you get close to 4000 stop. If your tune is correct it will be correct. Tapping directly off the VSS will sometimes screw with the PCM and can make the transmission do funny things.

There is some sort of trick where you have to wire in a diode or resistor or something. My memory is hazy on it but it has been covered here multiple times I think. Search for it and when you find it post a link here please. But yes, it needs to be in 4-cyl mode.

Why does mine work perfect then? I originally tapped into the VSS, but it would screw up the shifting of the transmission. I hooked a scanner up to it and the MPH would jump around once you got to around 65 MPH or so. It would read 65 then go to something like 42 and then 58. Made the trans do wierd things, so I hooked it up to the speed output from the PCM, set the ppm to 4000 and it works flawlessly. It's a 2 year old Autometer speedo, my original one was replaced by Autometer for a factory defect.

This one. http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...id=3012&sid=19 But I can't imagine they would have different guts? Didi you try to re-calibrate it?

And when you call them to tell them its messing up your trans shifting they will tell you to try several different resistors. I did that and it worked better, but still wasn't right.
When you calibrate it, does the odometer count off pulses? Mine wouldn't move when I switched it either, but after driving it and calibrating it to 4000 pulses it worked.
The gauge is picking up zero signal. I have calibrated this speedometer many times before, No matter how much it's off, it at least will move and despite being inaccurate. Something isn't right.
