I ordered the "stock" location plates for my c10 swap. Once installed it moved the trans about an inch or so forward. I ended up having to order 1 inch set back plates to get it right...

Yup, The LS engine is not as long. I have one inch setbacks and the trans is still more forward than it was with the SBC.

I hope like hell they fit... so I won't be wasting my money... I'm going to use the factory clamshell on the plates

The long bolt that goes through the rubber mount and upper mount, when I went to bolt it in there was about a 1 inch off set from it line up. Had to pry the rubber to get the bolt in..

My motor mounts were kinda worn so its possible that they were sagging a little thus causing the alignment issue.

if you notice on a SBC vs the Gen III/IV/V engine. The missing 1" is due to the rear bell housing flange.. due to the new cars engine bay being smaller.. GM shorten that area so they could fit them into a more compact engine bay.

That is about it for why you move the engine back 1" to meet up with the stock location of a older cars transmission flange location. (or trans up 1").

There is no one reason to use one plate location or another location IMO.. just move it where it works best..

Actually...if you don't match up the engine location, your driveshaft length will be off and possibly the bolt holes for the transmission crossmember. Depending on if you have a manual, the shifter location may be affected.

Yes.. that is a taken if you move it.. I should have stated that. I think I stated some of the same in aonther recent post out there a both plates.... .

Neither of my swap (chevelle or nova) are in any standard or 1" setback locations. Both are have either modified frame stand location or plates engine location changes. Drive Shaft are custom.

I used carshop 1" set backs on my 67 camaro and my th400 fell right into factory location on the xmember. I realize it is a different car but as others have said, 1 inch back plates are designed to put the rear of the ls engine in same location as if it were a sbc.

Installed my 1" setback plates today, trans is still about 1/4-1/2 inch forward but that is much better. The trans now bolts to the factory crossmember
