Default dynatech vs stainless works headers for 2nd gen fbody

I am gathering parts for my second gen swap and I'm stuck between dynatech and stainless works for headers. I already have one inch set back plates from car shop and not sure if the dynatech headers would work. Stainless works sells theirs with one inch set back plates and clamshell sbc mounts, but being stainless there is a price difference between the two. Another thing about dynatech is that I've seen pictures of them that hang below the subframe, haven't seen any installed pictures of the stainless works.

So does anybody here have any of these headers and would like to share how they fit, and what mount plates where used with the dynatech to get them to work?

In my search around the net I read a thread somewhere the other day that said he installed the dynatech with 1 inch setback plates. He also was running stock z bar and everything fit good. I have seen pic of the dynatech installed and they look a little low.

However, I do not have any hands on experience with these yet as my project is not that far along. I need to get my clutch and bellhousing then I will be ready for a test fit. BTW I am using the carshop 1 inch set back plates with oer repo motor mounts. Everything measures good for my stock super t10.

It's nice to hear that they work with the set back plates, but my concern is on how low they hang. The picture i saw they are below the subframe. The stainless works headers are nice, they use set back plates as well that are included by i haven't seen any pictures of them installed. I wouldn't mind paying the extra cash for the stainless if the fit was nice, i wouldn't want to scrape them on the first test drive lol

Since your worried about clearance I would not go with the dynatech. My worry about stainless is the underhood heat. I would like a set of coated headers.

I had dynatec on mine and they did hang low. Caught my trailer every time it went on. They did fit great though.

Saw a set of hedman headers installed on a first gen, they were right on with the subframe. It's on game overs thread, but engine placement of that particular kit sty the motor about 4 inches forward :o

The way that I understand it is that the 1st Gen has a different sub frame. I`m in the same boat as you. Don`t want to buy a set and then find out they don`t fit nice.

I was checking out brp hotrod kit and it says a 4th gen oil pan works, if that's the case then I'd figure out would set the motor back, like the 1 inch setback plates. Guess I'll give them a call to verify, still would love the stainless...hate losing sleep over crap like this lol

If you haven't picked out a mounting system just yet and want a really nice set of headers for a great price, give Bob at Brutespeed a call...he should still have or could at least get you the Kook's headers for a 2nd gens for an amazing price. Top quality parts, second to non-service, really fast shipping.

Good luck!

BTW, I used the BRP Hotrods kit way back when they were first developing it...at the time we went back and forth to get the fit right but in the end it was pretty good. The one complaint I had about the Hedman Hedders that were "compatible" with the kit was that they hung down too much for my liking. My '78 TA was low but not ridiculously so and shouldn't have bottomed out but it did on occasion.

I've seen the kooks but I'm not entirely sure about "adjustable" plates, sounds like pita to me. And I already have 1 inch setback plates from carshop inc and I like where the engine ends up with those. Well put some thought into those as well.

Interested in the discussion, as I'm in a similar boat with respect to making a decision on headers.

They fit great except a little low. I used carhop 1 " setback plates. They are by far the nicest looking header I ever owned. I am selling because I am seriously considering a small turbo. I just need to prolong my stagnant swap. LOL

Wow they look great. But if i save a good amount with jimbo then I'll put that into suspension mods, or toward a rear end.

The SW headers are expensive. I paid $840 shipped from Colorado Speed, but they are sweet.
