Default Holley lsx oil pan?

I'm convinced in buying this for my 68 camaro. Has anyone used this? Pros, cons??

What's with the windage tray that it comes with? Do I use stock one with f body pan or use after market it comes with?

I've got one on my 69 Camaro. The fit and finish was great, and there's loads of clearance at the steering linkage. The pan doesn't come with a windage tray- the small, square piece you're seeing in the pics goes down in the sump to keep oil from sloshing away from the pickup. You use your stock windage tray.

I have it in my '82 supra. It's a great quality pan with tons of clearance. Well worth it.

I bought the BRP kit very early on and sold my 4th gen pan because I did not want a welded pan and they did not have one of these at the time. I am going to pull my motor to put one in just for the clearance when I get a chance. Note on the pan you should have a full windage tray not the one that comes with the Camaro those do not cover the entire bottom of the motor.

I haven't taken pan of yet, but from what your saying the windage tray off my 02 camaro doesn't cover the complete bottom?

Only the 4th gen F-body uses the 3/4 Windage tray (IIRC). With the Holley LSx pan, you can use a full tray (either a car or truck).

Just curious but why would using a 3/4 windage tray be bad with the holley pan? And if not a good idea why was it used on the fbody?

Thanks in advance

The F-body pan used a 3/4 tray because the front of the pan is not as deep (maybe by 1/2 - 3/4 inch.) As many or most of the other pan's. Take a look at some pictures of the F-body pan as compared to others. Would allow the engine to sit lower to the cross member.

If you only have 3/4 of the lower end/rotating covered, you would lose 25% of the effect of the windage tray and what it is designed to do. Most likely you would not even feel anything unless you were turning 7 or 8000+ rpm's. If at all.

For most, IMO, it wouldn't make any different. Just nice to have.

I'm going to just keep 3/4 windage tray. My car is more of a daily driver with a stock ls1 for the time being.

Do I have to use washer with bolts?

For a daily driver. no problem, you should be ok.

The main studs should have threaded end on the studs that the Tray attaches to, GM uses self locking nuts.. But you could use locktight and/or lock washer is you using standard (metric) nuts.
