Default Air intake elbow?

Here is the issue...
Air intake elbow?-throttle-body-web.jpg

I thought one of these would cure the problem, but the measurements are all kinds of wrong
http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...gory_Code=CHEW

Would have posted in the build thread, but doesn't look like folks are looking at it too much, so made a new thread.
I have searched, but nothing looks that it would fit.
I need the elbow to go to the driver side, where the MAF and filter can go.

Thanks guys

Martin

Yeah, getting a 4" elbow to turn in a 2.5" space is going to be impossible if you want to maintain decent airflow. What it that running across the pic on the right- your radiator hose?

Yeah, top radiator hose. Can not go on top of the shroud due to hood clearance issues! It hit the underside of the hood when closed, and resting on top of the shroud.

Wow.. your pertty much screwed to get anything that is really going to flow well...

Best I could think of is a Rectangural tube fit flush and then once you get it to an area that you can transistion it to a round tube ? Not going to flow well into the enterance of the TB.. but at least it will get air into it. Pertty much just going to be an air box.. ?

are you using a MAF.. that would also complicate things...

Good luck.

See if you can find somebody with a trailblazer ss , the k&n cold air kit is pretty tight. Not sure if it would work for your application, but it might be close enough to work.

Yes, on the MAF. Funny, I was heading to Lowes this morning to see what could be either made to work, or mocked up to give me ideas.
Heading there to see what can be made to run the 2 temp sensors from the Rover side, inline with the heater hose, but think I have it figured out.

S&P has a small retangular air clean that goes no the front of the TB... Might also do a SD Tune to do away with the MAF.

Some ideas:
-Put an elbow between the TB and the intake, effectively relocating the TB. That would save you some length, but add plenum volume.
- Cut down the front of the TB and weld an aluminum mandrel bent elbow directly to it.
-Use a "carb hat" style elbow like this

Thanks for the excellent suggestions.
I cannot reroute the top hose, due to hood clearance issues like I said before. I has to go behind the shroud, no room on top of it.
Calling S&P now....

$402 though.....but that does include a MAF.

Any other ideas on where to look up sizes for the carb hat elbows?

Thanks again

Search on google for carburetor hat and I'm sure you can come up with a few manufacturers. Check their catalogs for dimensions. A carb hat is not ideal for flow, but neither are those S&P air cleaners or any other quick turn solution.

Keep in mind, even after you make the turn you may interfere with your tensioner pulley.

Do you have any shots of your engine bay? Maybe we can come up with other ideas for your application.

My tensioner is manual on the relocated alternator, which is now near the passenger side head.
Here is a shot of the drivers side, where the filter etc will have to go due to the Rover battery and ECM being on the passenger side inner fender.

I will go look again and see if I can extend the upper hose somehow without hitting the hood when it closes.

It looks to me like you have a lot of opportunities for moving the coolant hose. I would focus on that. For example, you could use a 90 degree fitting on the waterpump outlet or tap the front of the outlet so you can run the coolant hose under the TB, parallel to your intake tube.

You could also use a tube (steel, alum, etc) and bent it as you need it and then use two short peices of Radiator hose to connect the tube. You should be able to get a Muffler shop to bent you up something.

You might be able to get a better route and tuck it closer to the engine or radiator.

as Clint suggest, you do have some options. You just need to be creative.

Another option is to get a radiator with the top inlet on the passengerside. .(duel pass).

that way you would have to route the hose over.

Thanks Clint.
So the neck of the water pump can be removed etc? And replaced with a 90 degree fitting? I searched, but found nothing conclusive.
I just rechecked the possibility of using a stock style top hose, and it hits the padding on the underside of the hood before it fully closes.
Water pump is new, and the old one got thrown out IIRC, so nothing to "experiment" on.
