Default What years 6.0 to go with?

Ok guys so this is probably a newb question but I picked up a 72 camaro and going to let the sbc run till she blows(which isn't far away) anywho I originally planned on a iron 5.3 but given that my user name is 408maro and always wanted a 408 I may try to just do that.

Now from what I understand if I'm correct is that the lq4 and lq9 are pretty similar besides a few internal differences and compression? Now what years should I be on the look out for to mate with a t56 to this 2nd gen? I heard some years don't go or fit due to reluctor? Sorry if I'm wrong

Now the possibility due to funds making the 408 work may make me drift later I can still always get away with the 6.0 the way it is. So which years and things should I be on the look out for? Thanks guys

John

2001 up LQ4/9, but an '04-up would be better..full floating Pistons.

LQ9 is Flat-top Pistons.

Some early lq4s had iron heads , id steer clear of those . In fact I would only be lookin at an lq4 if I were planing for forced induction , otherwise lq9 , or ly6[my favorite] , LQ4 is not a bad motor , but there are better choices if you dont want boost

i got my 6.0l from a 2004 express van. it mated up to a t56 no problem. reworked my own harness to stand alone and even the wiring once i got into it was for the most part pretty simple.

lq4s and lq9s only difference from what i understand is the pistons. lq9s have flat tops which bumps up compression and produced more power. that being said they are harder to get your hands on and more money if you find one. if your planning on boring and stroking anyway stock pistons make no difference to you

$300 for a good block and machining done...yes if good/ready to build. Have your machinist give it a check.

Like these guys said... here's a lil tip I did post you an ad on Craigslist looking for lq4-lq9 you'll be surprised who's got one and wants to sell. I got mine for 850 complete pulleys, starter etc... sell the stuff ur not using and end result we be cheap. Make sure the t56 is an ls type because they make one that fits lt1 also but be prepared to cut the floor for it to work unless you get a magnum which is shorter and will fit fine. Also lq4's are a tad cheaper you can buy ls2 or lq9 pistons with rods for around 100-150$$

Why is everyone worrying about full floating pistons and stuff like that? If he's looking to make a 408 out of it then none of that stuff matters...only the block itself. Everything else in the rotating assembly will have to be new...
