Default CANNOT get clamshell mounts to line up

I am using plates and stock GM clamshells. I've drilled crossmember mounting holes to 1/2" to try and get more wiggle room, but these FRIGGIN things are still 1/2" or a bit more out. What the heck has everyone been doing? I used the same mounts on my 79 and got them to line up fine.

Any tricks here?

What adapter plates are you using?
Are they bolted to the block in correct position?

What position are the frame pads mounted? Did you use energy suspension inserts?

I put new energy suspension inserts in my frame pads and could not get the clam shells to sit properly with the motor for nothing. Double checked the ES insert instructions multiple times and I knew I put them in correctly as ES instruct you to.. Had to remove them from the frame and flip the inserts and the motor finally aligned up correctly.

They are just 1" sebtack ebay plates. They only bolt up one way. I have the mounts on the engine and the rubber mounts in with the bolts. I tried setting it in THAT way too Maybe these plates are crap. If the holes were drilled in a different spot, they might work better.

I can't even get it THAT close to put together loosely. The holes are WAY too far off on the crossmember. I'm even usijg the stock wore out rubber mounts for the extra slop.

Nope. That would make it worse!

It seems if he had srilled and tapped the engine block holes higher, it would be perfect. I see Holley's mounts look like they have bump outs around the engine mount holes, as if hey are not in a straight line with the LS holes.

Hm.. I guess could just be the adapter plates, as you also suspect.

I'm using carshop Inc 1in set backs.

It's the crappy plates. These are what I got. I went and looked at carshops, and the drilled and tapped holes in theirs are down under the countersunk holes by about 1/2". Exactly what needs to be done. Darn it.

To get th 6.0 in my caprice. I opened up the clamshell holes and made mount plates that raised the motor 3/8" on the plates.

You spaced between the adaptor plates and the block?? That would make my problem even worse. The mounts are too far apart as it is. I need them closer together. If my mounts had the holes 1/2" lower on the adaptor plates, it would be perfect. I will be ordering carshop plates in the morning.

The holes on the clamshell that bolts to the plates were drilled out bigger. The mounting plates had drilled and tapped holes 3/8" lower that actually raised the motor 3/8" bringing the frame mounts closer together.

That's what I need. There isn't enough space on the plates I have to redrill. It threw me off when you called it a spacer. We were talking about the same thing though. Thanks!!
