Wont start and smoke from cooling system

alright so ive been trying to fire up this motor for the past week and it just doesnt wanna fire. ive gone through the wiring 3-4 times, checked codes and all i get is for evap crap (which i thought was tuned out). computer was a mail order from a company ive used several times with no issues. this is what i had them tune it for just to fire. (2001 4.8l, 2000 4l60e, 3200 stall, 60lb injectors and vats removed). i have fuel and spark.

anyways when i crank it over with no coolant in the motor i get what looks like exhaust smoke from the thermostat housing and waterpump. any reason for this? ive never seen it before and ive done maybe 5-6 swaps.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might be a cracked block or a blown head gasket...did you try a compression or leak down test ? Or even a smoke test...

nope he bought the motor off craigslist and we threw it in. guess ill have to try and do a compression test.

When my head gasket went I got bubbles from the radiator and coolant leaking out of the exhaust.

A leaking head gasket shouldn't keep it from starting. Maybe multiple issues.

yeah dunno why it wont start. i got good fuel pressure (around 60-65psi), i know the injectors are firing cause i pulled the rail off and cranked it over with the injectors still in it and watched the pattern. i got spark so i know its not the computer. totally forgot what the IAT controls so i hooked one up today and still nothing.

and if it was the crank sensor i shouldnt get spark right?

owner decided to replace the gas today. stuff that came out didnt smell too good. went through and tried several other things and still cant this thing to fire on its own. itll run fine spraying something into the throttle body. pulled the rail off and a spark plug and theyre both firing at pretty much the same time. tried different spark plugs. pulled the intake off to check for any messed up gaskets. checked to see if the fuel filter was hooked up correctly. checked all wiring yet again.

dunno what else it could be.
