thanks for the feedback on the e38 question, now if its not an 08 engine and it doesn't have an E38 pcm, what is this engine? im out of town for work this week but ill be home this weekend to do some more investigating on the engine. Is it a bad thing that the pcm isn't a E38?

Personally, I like the LSA/B PCMs better than the E38 - especially for swaps... You got a good base to build on.

If you have the PCM that came with it, the easiest way to find out what it is - have someone pull the tune and see what it is...

starting pulling the old 350 today, only spent about and 1 1/2 hours on it but made good progress. I wont have another chance to work on it until next week cause ill be out of town working all week. heres some pics of the progress so far, the sooner I get this one out the sooner I can get my 5.3! me and the guy worked out a pretty good deal, he's getting my complete engine and im stabbing it in his 77 Camaro for him in return I get the 5.3 and all the wiring and pcm. I think its a STEAL!

Well those are the the pic I needed to see . At this point I can't tell you exactly what year it is. But I can tell you its not an 2008 from a Van or truck . Head casting # 862 was never used on 08 and up. #862 is a truck casting for trucks and vans 4.8 and 5.3s Now everything is suspect as for, as it being from a 2008 van . If it came out of a Van it would be 2003 to 2007. But those heads were used in trucks from 99 all the way to 2007 classic body style. It is very possible it could be a 5.3 its used the same block. Trucks went dbw 03 ,vans are dbc vans were not drive by wire.

It has 13mm exhaust bolts, so it's 2004.5+ which came with the good rods.

That's good too hear, I'm thinking that I'm going to get a different transmission to put behind it instead of the 700. Maybe 4l60? But that's in the distant future, can't wait to get back home and get back on it.

now that ive got the engine out im going to smooth the firewall and paint it before I put the LS in. whats your guys opinion on painting the firewall, should I go classic black or paint it the same color as the body? obviously from the pictures you can tell the car is still in primer but im trying to figure out a color. thanks for the feedback

Since you are smoothing out ur firewall i would paint it the same color as your car. I painted my car hugger orange and i kick myself on the *** for not doing the firewall the same color.
