4L80E with Transgo HD3 kit...will it shift itself?

4L80E with Transgo HD3 kit...will it shift itself? It seems like I can't find any good info on the transgo HD3 kit. Does it make the trans manual shift, or can you throw it into 'drive' and go?
Helping a neighbor with his 72 Chevelle BBC build and he's looking for a strong, mechanical OD trans. I was hoping a 4L80E + HD3 would be the ticket as I have a couple known good 2WD trans and it beats the he11 out of the 700r4 he's got.
