Default Turbo 400 behind an Ls1 Help please

Ive been looking to see what it would take to put my Turbo 400 behind an ls1 in my 68 Camaro. Ive found that I should probably use an ls based flywheel, spacer from gm, and have to get longer bolts. Can anybody help me with part numbers? Another problem im having is how does the spacer actually fit in the setup? Ive seen pics online with it between the flexplate and crank and have seen it between crank and converter and facing both directions. Can anybody help me with the correct way to do this? Thanks Tommy

If you are using a th400 convertor then I believe the spacer will be between the flexplate and the nose of the convertor. It helps support the snout of the convertor. You can also look into getting a ls-th400 convertor that is made with the snout machining as this is a fairly common swap for people. And it also depends on what flexplate you are using as if memory serves the 6.0 flexplate is flat and the 5.3 is dished. If using a 5.3 flexplate the spacer will be between the flexplate and convertor. If using a 6.0 flexplate I believe its between the crank and flexplate.

On my 5.3 Ls it has a dished flexplate and I got a converter made and it bolted right together. No adapter or anything. Circle d makes a nice affordable flexplate for the conversion. You have to oval out the converter holes on the stock flexplate but its up and down not side to side so it's not a huge deal.

HUP-HP3795 from summit racing, slides into the rear of the ls crankshaft, extending the pilot.

I will usually find an old small block chevy flex plate that fits my torque converter, then I will hold it up to the 5.3 or ls1 flex plate, and the teeth should be identical, i use the teeth to center the old flex plate to the ls flex plate, vice grip on 2 or 3 places, and then drill new holes using the old small block flex plate as a template. I usually use a slightly larger drill so there is a little wiggle room in case I don't get the hole exactly correct.

This is by far the cheapest route.

Im going to be running the 6.0 flexplate. Ive been looking and I think the 4l80e trans flexplate and turbo 400 should both have an 11 inch pattern. Id like to do the ls to turbo 400 custom converter but the ones I've found arnt cheap. Does anybody have a used one for sale?

I have a question on this installation, do you have to have any washers or spacers in between the flywheel and converter for proper engagement? To push the converter back a little, or is it engaged when you bolt straight up?

just use the flat 6.0 flex plate with the spacer between it an the crank an roll with it no need to waste money on a custom converter

Thanks slowbu I think I'm going to go that route. Now I just need to take my converter to a shop to get it restalled. It was 5000 behind my 406 high comp small block. Thinking about getting it built to around 3000
