Where's the trunk tub from? When I was looking none of them had the rectangle brace in the bottum. I had to make one myself. ALso when you do your axle bearings, you might want to do a small tack weld on the axle to keep it from possibly walking out.

For when you get the bearings pressed onto the axles, sometimes the axles will loosen on the bearings and "walk" or come out of the housing. Getting a tack weld does lower the chances of it happening. There is no c-clip on this style rear end and it's kind of a cheap safety. Thanks for the link for the tub.

Slow going.
Got the rear all mocked up.
Had do a little grinding on the new disc bracket that mounts to the back of the flange, there was some irregularities on the back side of the flanges.
Now only one issue..... damn wheel studs are to short.
Minor Technicalities right..... ?

Great news, the ol'girl is back on the ground.
Finished: cutting/flairing stainless brake lines, bleeding brakes, hooking up the newly fabed parking bake cables, double checking all the new parts are on tight, then putting grease into the zerts for the new front upper/lower control arms.

After putting all new springs/shocks/upper & lower control arms she doesn't sit quite like it did before, which is where I really liked it.
Hopefully the front will settle in and drop a bit.
Back is about .5" higher than before and front is about 1.0" higher.

With Christmas so close and family gatherings I won't be able to get her in for an alignment till after that.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of the new stance.

I see your gonna run rack and pinion. Is that unisteers kit?

@ six1rag, that rack was for my old car that I sold and not for the Bel Air.

I didn't get any pics yesterday due to all this white $hit on the ground that hit us yesterday.
Here she is.... Sky-fricken-high in the front:

I don't mind the rear being up .5" from before.
But the front is atleast 1" higher than before and she will need to get lower down.
I did some searching and when I pull the 235 six banger & iron glide out and put the all Aluminum L-33/200R4 I will actually be reducing the weight in the front by a few hundred pounds.... so she will need to get the front springs cut probably 1.5" or 2.0" at the most.

She does look nice with the disc brakes all the way round, I definately like the new look.

Yeah.. when I built my Chevelle.. I used a Hotchkis system and B-Body Spindles, should have dropped it 3".. but it was sitting higher than I expected or designed it to be.. so I had to cut the spring 1/2 coil.. That 100+ lbs does make a difference in ride height !

I pretty much have the same chassis stuff as you . but I went with the 2" dropped spindles. I was going to go air ride, but just didn't. Still very happy with the ride of my Biscayne. As for cutting a stock spring the ride quality will change,even more so if you cut more than 1 coil from it. Try find a aftermarket lower spring or change the spindles out.

You could try speedwaymotors.com they have a wide selection of aftermarket springs. Fairly priced and fast shipping.

I think a good set of stock springs from a 283/non AC car would put you back to stock height for cheap. Or a set of 1" lowering springs for a normal small block car. I know the iron 6 cyl and pg you had weigh more than a big block chevy and TH400. Those old 235's were HEAVY.

Here's how my Biscayne sits right now, pretty happy with it. Any lower and I will be scrapping mufflers, the roads in Winnipeg are not the best for lowered vehicles.

I put in brand new Moog factory replacement springs on all 4 corners along with new shocks..
Seems the old ones were totally worn out.
I looked into 2" lowering springs and or 2" drop spindles.
Thankfully with the crap weather season here I really won't be driving it so maybe I'll get lucky and she will settle and drop a bit, but I bet I end up doing something before summer.

ETA: Norm, your Biscayne is awesome.
Do you have a build thread for it ?

Picked up the L-33 yesterday.
Threw on the valve covers and set the intake on it.

I am tossed up on the header/manifolds.
Yesterday I put on my factory exhaust manifolds, they are painted with high temp paint and to be honest with ya it's to much "silver".
