F-Body Oil Pan

F-Body Oil Pan
My swap is done on my 68 camaro (5.3 with Tremec 5-speed). My engine builder buddy was adamant that I need to use the H3 oil pan. I took his word without doing my own research. My pan hangs low...too low.
Did I get the right pan from GM? I guess I'm confused with what other have done. Feel free to flame me.

the H3 pan is just a truck pan and yes, it will hang much to low. I would not recommend any truck pan, even with modification.
Get a F-Body or an aftermarket pan (Holley, MAST, Autokraft, etc). Even a CTS-V pan might be questionable as it is just over an inch deeper than a F-body pan. But if you not lowering the car too much, it will work ok. The F-Body pan and the New to be released Pan are good in that the front area is much more shallower that most of the other pans (gm or aftermarket).

So the F-body pan per the LSX oil pan sticky will work? I need to do some measuring based on the drawing in the sticky.

I am 100% sure the F body pan will work. I just cant remember if it will work with stock steering components. The last two 1st Gen Camaros I did had rack & pinions installed. I am currently working on a 72 Nova and I am having issues with the drag link hitting the front of the oil pan. Looks like I will have to notch the oil pan, and extend the pick up tube, in order to clear the stock steering parts......

Love my Autorkraft. Well worth the money for how well it fit in my Monte. Not sure how it will fit your F-body but it should be easy to mod since its a sheetmetal pan and not cast aluminum.

Most if not all 1st Gen f-body and 3rd gen x-body will require a notch in a F-Body pan to clear the steering. Else you have to move the engine/trans back, but firewall and trans tunnel come into play if you move them back.

NEW Holley oil pan.
StreetandPerformance modified pan. But, the front is tight for the steering. I saw this modified F-body pan at Holley LS Fest 2013. Not sure if S&P did the front mods. I plan to do this mod over the winter.
While I was at the show I had my hands on the new Holley pan but I unfortunately did not take a picture of it. It is very similar to their current pan except the front is shorter and narrower making it perfect for A-body swaps. Coming out before the end of this year for same price.

By the way, I understand a second gen subframe will bolt into a first gen F-body.

The corvette Z06 exhausts are contoured to fit the batwing pan...or maybe the pan to fit the exhaust.
The stock manifolds flow really well too. I bought a pair for $40. They'll even clear a Z bar.

Brought my old thread back for a question. I'm measuring both versions of the Holley LS oil pan (part #302-1 and #302-2) for the best fit in my 68 camaro. My question is can I swap out the GM Muscle Car pan with the Holley pan without raising the engine up?
Thanks.
Thanks.
