1952 Chevy Coupe w/ 5.3 LS
#62
I finished the steering linkages and took it for spin last night. I should have waited until my entire front end was put together, though... Apparently the radiator wasn't as secure as I thought and the crank pulley poked a hole in it! Now I have to get that fixed before I can drive it again.
It was a great feeling finally getting to drive it! Although it took longer than I wanted, 10 months from a rust bucket barn find to an LS swapped drivable car is pretty good in my book.
Hopefully I can get the radiator repaired quickly and get the front end completed. Then I'll take it to the exhaust shop and after that I can start making it look pretty!
I'm using a Tanks Inc. steel tank, MSD inline fuel pump, corvette regulator, summit racing stainless braided AN6 lines & fittings, stock LS1 fuel rails and 30lb red ford injectors.

Introduction
Hello Leadfoot85
I just subscribed to your thread and it's great, I'm looking forward to
your posts. I followed your thread at the H.A.M.B. until you came to
LS1Tech and I didn't want to be hung out in the rain so I joined.
I have a '51 Chevy wagon that I purchased awhile back and I would
like to start working on it.
At first I thought about the purchase of a more up to date 235 or
261 but the more I think about it I just don't think I would be happy
with an inline 6. I'm not ready for an engine/trans
yet, but I am ready to start soaking up information and knowledge.

So today started with good news - the radiator shop called and said they couldn't find any leaks! Turns out my upper radiator hose was the culprit and it was dripping where there was some crushed fins...
So, tonight I put the radiator back in and made sure all the hoses were good and tight and fired her up. No more leaks!
Next I've got to trim the inner fenders and get them installed before I drive it again. Then I'll throw the hood on and take it to the exhaust shop!

I worked until midnight last night, but I managed get the inner fenders trimmed and installed. I also installed a battery box in the trunk and cleaned up some of wires in the engine bay. I am going to take it for a test drive when I get home from work today. Ill get the wife to video it and Ill post it up tonight.
Here are some pics:
Some full car shots
My steering linkage set-up (I still need to patch where I had to notch the frame)

Hell Yea. Looks good Lead. I took mine down the road a few weekends ago. The LS sure moves these cars with ease. I stopped in front of the house, got my wife’s attention and did a burnout. Lit them up. My neighbor was pissed..... complained that I didn't do the burnout so they could see. HA HA.

Good job....
I have been following this build since it was first on HAMB. Im glad you did not let the naysayers stop you from this great LS build. I can't wait to get my LS 49 Chevy on the road the motor and the trans are done now time to do the lines. Great job and cool updates

I was able to put the grill, front bumper and hood on this week. The hood is not wanting to line up just right, so I need to mess with it some more to get it right.
Also, My trans is not shifting through the gears when in "Drive". I've already ruled out some possible causes and narrowed it down to a bad TSS sensor. I got one at the parts store today and will try to swap it out soon. I hope that fixes it!

Funny how a lot of us got projects started on the HAMB until the traditional guys start carrying on. I still frequent the HAMB but if I post a picture of my 1935 sedan I make sure the hood is closed so they don't see the LS engine.
