Default 98 chevy k1500 5.3 swap Questions

Hey everybody. I have a 98 chevy k1500 with a 5.7 4x4 automatic. I have my eye on a totalled 2004 chevy 1500 5.3 4x4. I would like to swap the 5.3 into my 98.

My first question is the wiring harness. I see Street & Performance has a plug and play wiring harness for $1000. Is it worth it to get the harness, or is it simple enough to use the harness that is in the 2004 and cut what I need from it?

Im open to any and all suggestions on my project! Please chime in!

I used PSI Conversion swap went good. Needed a adapter to run the stock 350tbi oil pressure gauge and mod the trans dapt setback plates. Other than removal of A/C it for in really well. I used the set back plates to retain stock 700r4 trans in its stock location. Need any pictures send me a PM

You can rework your 98 harness to work with the 5.3 and its PCM,no need to spend a grand, but you do have to do your homework and have a good understanding of it.If thats out of your comfort level there are vendors on this board that you should talk to first, many here are willing to recommend them.
