Default Jeep ly6 tranny

Picked up an 08 LY6 to put in a Jeep with 40" tires. I have the 08 pcm and plan to use it in a Ca smog compliant installation. I understand 08 and up trucks didn't have a manual tranny option. So instead of running my big ol NV4500 5 spd, I'll have to get a 4L80E and an advance adapters xfer case adapter. Anyone have any knowledge or ideas about this conversion?

I'm building a tube buggy with an LY6 and went with a 6L80. If you want to use a 4L80, get a harness, PCM, TCM, and trans from an 07+ van. They had 4L80's from the factory behind LY6 engines.

Oh, I was told as far as the trany itself goes, late 90's up were all the same as say an 07 or 08,9. Anyone know the facts on this subject cause I was gonna pick up a 99 4l80 tomorrow.

you can run a manual trany behind a ly6 , many on here have , my suggestion would be to also run a cam phaser , for piece of mind , or a non vvt cam , other than that , with the transdapt adapter [for your jeep trany] you should be able to bolt it right up with pieces from an ls3 equipped with a manual trany

Thanks Jimmy but, My Jeep runs the hammers and the freeways in Ca so it has to be smog legal and of course no mil light. A ly6 pcm would probably miss that automatic enuf to turn on the mil. Now a pcm programmer shop can eliminate all those error codes but I want to go auto anyway. I've had the NV4500 in there for 18 years with 7 different engines and I just thought I'd try the 4l80 anyway. I plan on running the stock vvt cam setup. Is that gonna be a problem cause I don't understand your phaser comment. thank you

phase limiter. prevents the cam phaser from over-adjusting cam timing and causing piston to valve contact. if you swap in a bigger cam, it will usually come with one. if you keep the stock cam, it's not necessary. keep an eye on your oil pressure regardless, these engines are more sensitive to drop in pressure than the non-vvt engines.

I have run a stock 4th gen f-body pan in the past on my LQ4 with improved racing baffle. I also put on on the LY6 in the new rig I'm building. Just the baffle worked 95% of the time, but I added a 2-quart accumulator this time for added safety. You probably already know about Pacific Fab, they sell the Autokraft pan which works well. They also have a VVT cam that works well for what we do.

I'm jealous you live close enough to the hammers to drive a rig on 40s to and from the lakebed. I've been to three KOH's and even brought my own rig across the country in '11. I definitely want to get out there with my new one once it's finished.
