Most if not all LS motors have an electric sensor from the factory.

If you use anything but the stock '87 replacement sensor, the stock gauge in the dash will not work.

Im planning on going back with all new auto meter gauges, most of my stock gauges are crapped out.

The new electric Autometer gauges will come with new single wire sensors. So you can dump all your stock gauge only sensors and just use the Autometer ones.

On my 1992 chevy pickup 5.3 swap i bought an adapter from s&p to use the 1992 trucks sender in place of the 5.3 sender. Works just like it did with the old 350.

You will need to use the sender matched to the gauge, an adapter is available from Autometer to mate the new sender(1/8 npt) to the LS metric hole.

I took the factory sender from the 5.3, broke off the plastic part, cleaned it and then drilled and tapped 1/8 hole in it. Then screwed the s10 sensor into it. No rewire or adapters.

I use the stock sender for the car's gauges. I take the LS oil sender, break off the plastic part, clean out the inners. Then drill and tap the alum peice for the correct thread of the sender. Now you have a no cost adpter.

Thread it all together, connect the wires and your done.

Two ways - left is tapped oil cooler by-pass, Right (with tap) is broken LS sender.
