04 5.3 coolant sending units
Ok I have a 92 s10 with a 5.3 from an 04 suburban. I'm trying to hook up the stock coolant gauge with the sensor from the 04 suburban. I know that one of them needs to go to the pcm for fan control but I'm wondering if anyone has tried to connect the pigtail from the 4.3 plug into the 5.3 plug? I went to AutoZone and checked both sensors and the plugs seem to be the exact same fit. The 4.3 sensor came with the pigtail so I used that to plug it into the 5.3 sensor and both me and the guy at the counter were surprised it fit. So........does anyone know if the 5.3 sensor is the same typical sender type as the 4.3 that will work a temp gauge?

The thread size should be the same since I'm trying to use the sensor from the 04 5.3 on the same engine just on the other head port. The plug from the 4.3 goes right into the 5.3 sensor plug. Because of this, I'm curious as to whether it would work as a normal sender to the gauge readout

I'm also wondering if I could just splice the input for the truck gauge to the wire on the existing sensor. I'd really like to figure this out so I can remove the cheap sunpro mechanical gauge and go for a nice sleeper interior. The 04 5.3 only has 2 wires.

Well nevermind I just tried to hook up my factory gauge input wire to one of the 2 wires on the coolant gauge and it triggered something in the pcm to start the fans. I don't know what the other wire will do but I'm not gonna try it.
