I used the stock shifter with a th400 Look in my build thread for a couple pics of my linkage

Since I only have a three speed I have one unused dent at the back of the shifters travel so you " should" be able to work a four speed

I'm using the stock 4cyl shifter for my 4l80e, just have to get a custom shifter cable. I can't remember where I got mine from now. I'll have to check.

Any updates on this? I'm trying to get the stock shifter on my '99 to work with a 4L80E but can't seem to find a cable that will work.

I'm using the stock shifter and cable in my 95. Operates the 4L80 just fine, only had to modify the end of the cable to rig it to the GM shift lever.

Removed the stud with the ball end from the GM shifter arm, welded a short bolt in its place. Welded a washer to the end of the ford cable that lines up with the bolt in said shifter arm. Nylock nut, jam nut, done. I'll snap a pic next time I'm under the car, probably in just a few hours.

I was wrong in my post above. I decided not to use a washer on the end of the ford cable, I carved up a piece of 14 gauge sheet and made a one-off adapter. Sorry, been about a year since I made that piece, memory is the first thing to go.

Just remember that there are 2 different shifters for a foxbody, the v8 aod has 3 spaces on it 1 D D and the 4 cyl shifter has 4 spaces on it. 1 2 D D

how did you mounted the cable to the trasn and, are the gears acrid with the gearing for example: is R really in reverse or D in drive?

I just made a spacer out of a piece of aluminum to mount the ford bracket to the GM pan. I spaced it down about 1/2" - 3/4", don't remember exactly.

Also, the detents in the ford shifter line up with the 4L80. R is reverse, D is drive, and so on. Not sure what shifter mine is, it has 3 forward detents so I won't be able to hold or down shift to first gear.

Just buy a stock c5 Corvette shifter off eBay and be done with it. Works great and you can make it look factory with a little ingenuity..
