4x4 4L60E into fox?
Hey, I was wondering if a 4x4 trans would work for a fox swap if I have to get a driveshaft made anyways. What kind of problems would I run into? I don't know if this is a completely stupid question or not, but hopefully someone could help me out. Thanks!

You can't just put the driveshaft on a 4x4 trans output shaft. Well, actually you can, the slip yoke will fit it, but you won't have any kind of tail shaft or seal so all your fluid will pour out of the 4" hole at the back. You would need to have the out put shaft and tail housing swapped from a 2wd which requires a complete tear down to do. So save yourself the trouble and just get one from a 2wd .

Well I was just curious, I knew the shaft was different, but I didnt know if it could be done another way. I can get a 2wd core and rebuild it all done for around 350 dollars so not a problem. Just curious! Thanks

Not hard at all. This is the output shaft and housing. In my opinion it isnt easier to toss money at the problem. $500 for another tranny or 70 bucks for a new shaft and housing. Have fun.

Call it throwing money at the problem if you want, but sometimes its just better to start with the right part. You could sell the 4x4 trans to recoup some cash. True, the inexperienced could learn to do it, I mean, you can learn to do anything, and if you're cool with pulling a transmission to fix it if you screw it up, then go for it, but I don't think most people are going to enjoy that since the majority of people on here are working without a lift.

Honestly it was a very dumb question, I knew the differences of the two transmissions, but did not know what that exactly meant into the application hence why I asked the question. I work at a trans shop actually, but I don't do the rebuilding so I am not as familiar with it as I could be. I can get a trans for 100 dollars and rebuild it for 200 or I could use a used trans with a swapped shaft and still have a used trans. It isn't throwing money at it, it's having reassurance that the thing is going to last.
Edit: Just looked at a picture and yeah I had a massive brain fart on this haha..wow transfer case duh..
