Default Ls1 swap into 240sx help

I'm starting to purchase parts for my ls1 into a s14 240sx I'm looking at wiring harness's and every harness I see is for a 99-02 ls1 what options do I have to swap my ecu and motor into my 240? I don't really want to get a different ecu because I have mine tuned with my mods and don't want to spend the money for a whole new tune

You shouldn't have to change the pcm(ecu) as long as its already been tuned and had the vats/junk removed.

And different harnesses are for different year motors, what do you have?

Yes all that is disabled. I have a 98. Actually a full 98 z but it's r titled the body is rough and i just decided to swap it in this 240 i picked up for dirt cheap of a friend. My problem is when I look at harness's such as chase bays and wiring specialties they both say 99-02 ls1

'98 is an odd year PCM/harness, but I'm sure companies make them, just don't advertise them because the don't sell as well. I would call the harness supplier of your choice and ask them. That said, if everything in the 240 isn't the same as the camaro (gear ratio and things like that) you'll most likley need to have it retuned when you're done anyway.

if you have an entire car to pick the harness from just use the harness from the 98...

all the orange wires get constant 12v and the pink ones get switched 12v... then all the black ones that were grounded to the head or chassis on the 98.... get grounded on your 240sx.

its not that hard to make your own harness... just do one connector at a time. These guys that charge $500 for a harness man come on!

I'm mainly worried about the f3 connector on the 240 and the chassis harness. I imagine I can figure out the engine but what about the lights signals wipers interior functions and such.

get a schematic on the 240. That is the correct way. Google it, check ebay, check autozone or a dealer. That way you know what every wire does and its importance.

I'll have to read up more yet I pick the 240 up Friday, in the process of pulling my ls1 and t56 now ordering the mounts this week I'm just really really intimidated by the wiring I am 100% confident on wrenching but wiring scares the hell out of me

Pull the ka24 harness off and strip the windshield wiper plugs back to the F3 plug. I left them all intact and reloomed them. There is very little you are going to need from that plug. I think I used the tach, key on power, starter signal wire. I used the Current performance fuse box to control the ls, took me maybe two hours to do the harness and maybe another couple hours probing the stock nissan harness with a volt meter to get it all working. I was pretty worried when I did it. Back in 08' there weren't swap harnesses available so I had no choice really.

Yeah I contacted chase bays, wire specialties, and speartech and no one produces them for the 98 anymore. I will probably have to just keep reading and looking at it once I get it because I don't even understand that much lol. I understand there is an f3 plug but don't know much else. I just started researching in the last day

^^or purchase a different year PCM such as the frequently used 411 PCM for under $100 if you really want to use a pre-made harness. Usually a reflash of the PCM to remove Vats, DOD, and make it useable with our chassis is rather cheap. Try asking over on SilviaV8 as well.

If I may suggest Wiring Specialities is the way to go for our chassis, avoid CB. I have not personally had any issues with CB but a few friends have and if you go over to Zilvia you can see the mess people have had to deal with using their harness.

Sell your 98 PCM on Ebay for a good price. Dont give it away as there is a demand ($$$) for them.

Use this document and convert you existing 98 harness to a 99-02 PCM.

http://www.mrk-motorsports.com/pdf/1...1999%20PCM.pdf

Then spend $35 and get a used PCM; load a 2 bar OS and file and tune away. You will be $ and time ahead with the newer PCM.

Or....get a generic standalone harness that needs a few wires from the s13 and leave the car side of the harness alone. I used a psi harness for a 99-02 pcm on my 240. Needed switched 12v and fuel pump power/signal pretty dang simple. I then removed all the **** that was not necessary from the engine bay leaving just the headlight stuff.

If you are going to wire it yourself look at an sr20 swap guide. It will show what wires are what at the fuse box and dash plugs. Then you can tap/extend to the ls harness as needed. Wiring is easy man it looks intimidating but once you read the fsm it's really simple.

I 2nd the idea on getting a 411 ecu. I have a 1998 454 mpfi and I had a little trouble finding a premade standalone harness for it to swap in to my '68 GMC truck. I ended up using Techrods (off ebay) but it had to be kinda a custom job.

You should be able to send your current harness off and have someone make it a stand alone.

If you're trying to keep your factory gauges then this post might be useless but its what I did, dash in my 240 was junk, so I ditched it, bought a painless street rod harness that's good for 98-04 LS1, its fool proof to hook up, and made my own lights, wiper, horn, etc harness, and put in a fiberglass cavalier dash from jerry bickel racing, some custom gauges and it was done, just as much work as making your own harness maybe more but just a thought, if your dash is crap like mine was, air bags deployed, cracks, and faded

^^^Any pix of the dash and setup? Mine isnt trashed but have always been interested in swapped dashes. I have seen the GTO dash in an S13 and it looked great but took a little bit of work to fit.
