Speaking strictly in terms of clearance with your steering rack the Holley 302-1 would get the nod, but it's not a good choice overall for 1st-gen F-body swaps due to interferences issues with the engine crossmember. Some guys have used it by placing shims under their frame stands, but I don't recommend that practice as it has a negative effect on your U-joint working angles and transmission clearance with the tunnel sheet metal. The only way to be able to use the 302-1 pan in an optimized manner is to notch the engine crossmember to accommodate it. The Holley 302-2 pan along with the new Hooker system of LS swap parts for 1st-gens addresses all these issues and provides a lower installed engine/transmission height in your car than you can obtain with any brand of swap plates used in conjunction with the stock frame stands.

Thank u I was just worried about the rack and pinion but I guess the issue that u pointed out on notching the frame to fit the 302-1 is more of a problem..302-2 it is thank u Todd

What's the part number for the hooker engine brackets? They recommended clam shel ones? Then the standard flat brackets

All of the new Hooker 1st-gen F-body swap components were designed for fitment/function around the geometry of the 12618HKR engine bracket kit, which retrofit clamshell mounts into these cars to eliminate the issues, shortcomings and compromises inherent to the use of swap plates and the factory frame stands.

We still offer swap plates like everyone else and headers that were designed 6-7 years ago to be installed with them, but the overall outcome of the swap is completely different than what you get using the new components.

I need to know more about your set-up and end goals before I can give you a recommendation on which parts will work better for you. Are you using an aftermarket subframe with your steering rack, or the stock subframe?

Default hello

I bought a 5.3 engine t56 transmission I just ordered the 302-2 oil pan and the hooker transmission mount. Front sub frame is stock. I have tubular upper & lowers qa1 coils and the rack and opinion that came with the car it was brand new. The rear has a tci 4 link & Currie rear end..14" wilwoods all around 19" fronts 20" intros .I wanna make it into a cruiser .

We still offer swap plates like everyone else and headers that were designed 6-7 years ago to be installed with them, but the overall outcome of the swap is completely different than what you get using the new components.

Are you wanting part numbers for the older Hooker swap plates or the newer Hooker clamshell style engine bracket kit?

I'm at a loss to make a recommendation for you based on the unknown geometry of your steering rack set-up Gino; none of the Hooker components or the Holley oil pans were test fitted for compatibility with steering components other than the stock OE parts. I know the Hooker engine brackets and transmission crossmembers will work for you, but I think it's highly probable that your going to be left out in the cold when it comes to a compatible set of headers. Do you have any photos of the steering set-up on your subframe?

From that picture alone I can't conclusively say that the Hooker headers will clear your rack and/or the steering shaft that will eventually mate up to it, which means I'll have to give you an unofficial and personal recommendation as to what I would do If I were building a similar car. I would use the Hooker 12618HKR engine bracket kit and related Hooker transmission crossmember (12625HKR for 4L60-4L75 transmissions or 12626HKR for T56/T56 Magnum transmissions) to get the engine and trans mounted in the car and then purchase the painted mild steel or stainless steel version of the Hooker long-tubes and modify the interfering tube(s), if needed, to clear the steering rack/shaft. You may get lucky and have them clear everything right out of the box, but you have to be prepared to make modifications to them. If you want to go that route the header part numbers are as follows:

2275HKR- 1-3/4" painted steel
2275-7HKR- 1-3/4" stainless steel
2276HKR- 1-7/8" painted steel
2276-7HKR- 1-7/8" stainless steel

I don't foresee the pan giving you any issues. As you can see by the attached photo of the Hooker components and the 302-2 pan on a 3rd-gen Nova (same subframe as a 1st-gen F-body) there is a ton of room between the pan sump and the subframe.

So 72 and newer clamshells work with the plates? So will the mounts from a 4th gen fbody work or is there a specific year range?
