Holley 302-2 pan with Kooks Headers in 1st Gen F Body?
#41
The engine brackets will only work with the stock standard performance clamshell mounts installed as factory equipment on the 72-81 F-body cars, which is represented in the aftermarket as the popular 2292 mounts. They are also fully compatible with the aftermarket poly mount inserts from Energy Suspension. The 4th-gen F-body mounts are distinctly different and not compatible with the Hooker engine brackets.

hello Tod
[QUOTE=Toddoky;18680672]I don't foresee the pan giving you any issues. As you can see by the attached photo of the Hooker components and the 302-2 pan on a 3rd-gen Nova (same subframe as a 1st-gen F-body) there is a ton of room between the pan sump and the subframe.

[QUOTE=Gino1381;18707897] What size primary tubes do you want? Do you want painted steel, silver ceramic steel, black ceramic steel or stainless steel headers?

[QUOTE=Gino1381;18709069]Black but not ceramic would be painted mild steel headers. The part number for the 1-3/4" headers would be 2275HKR and the 1-7/8" would be 2276HKR. Use the 17/8" on anything other than a stock 4.8/5.3L or stock LS1 build.

hello
Speaking strictly in terms of clearance with your steering rack the Holley 302-1 would get the nod, but it's not a good choice overall for 1st-gen F-body swaps due to interferences issues with the engine crossmember. Some guys have used it by placing shims under their frame stands, but I don't recommend that practice as it has a negative effect on your U-joint working angles and transmission clearance with the tunnel sheet metal. The only way to be able to use the 302-1 pan in an optimized manner is to notch the engine crossmember to accommodate it. The Holley 302-2 pan along with the new Hooker system of LS swap parts for 1st-gens addresses all these issues and provides a lower installed engine/transmission height in your car than you can obtain with any brand of swap plates used in conjunction with the stock frame stands.

[QUOTE=Gino1381;19059182] That was certainly known to be a possible outcome with the overall combination of parts you have. The header modification shouldn't be that difficult for someone with fabrication skills, so if a work-around for the mount can be figured out, you should be able to bring it all together. How much space do you have between the shaft and the engine mounting bracket?
