Best donor vehicle - ECM and harness
I have access to end of life 2003 and older GM trucks. If I'm looking for an ECM and harness to mod for use in a LS swap, which year or model is best? I plan to use a 6.2 truck engine and a 2004R transmission so I will need to swap over an older cable throttle body. Are there any years or models to stay away from?.....Any insight?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Your post is kind of confusing. First you say you can get 2003 and older trucks for parts, then say youre goung to use a 6.2? Do you mean 6.0? A 6.2 will have a different crank sensor/reluctor that wont work with a 2003 and older PCM without a Lingenfelter conversion box. If you are going to get a per 03 6.0, I would get a 2001 or newer since it wont have the cast iron heads. Other than that, newer is usually better since theyre constantly upgrading things at the factory.

For the most part 03-07 truck PCM (green/blue) and the associated harness are all the same physically. ls1nova71 is right on the money in regard to the 6.0 vs. 6.2 and any of the later 58 tooth reluctor engines. If you are going to use a 200R4 the trans part save converter lockup is immaterial. Do you already have the trans? If not , you could go with a more contemporary trans. Just for grins what is the car?

The low end torque is different, but the overall drivability is much better. A possible choice would be an LQ4 or LQ9 03-07. These are relatively inexpensive and plentiful. A 4L60E would easily couple and would not require much if any at all massaging of the trans tunnel. You could most likely use all of the accessory drive and the PCM/wiring is an easy modification. Search the site for many other G-body swaps to get an example of what works.
