I will be using this thread to document my 5.3 LSx into my 1985.5 Porsche 944.
Plans for the car:
5.3 of some variety
Custom built turbo kit
BW S366 Twin Scroll Turbo (my goal is to have the BEST powerband for street use)
The car when I picked it up:

![](https://googledrive.com/host/0B4VJu-seEFn2MHg2SlpOVmVJTzQ/Porsche%201.jpeg)
Tearing down the motor to take it out:

Plenty more to come

Looks like your well on your way, got a long way to go, but I've always like these Porsches, just those old V8s are slouches. With a turbo LS in there, it'll be a bit of a sleeper.

Man there is quite a bit of room in the engine bay! This looks like it will be a fun project for you. What are your plans for the transmission? Will you be make your own motor mounts?

+1 on the welds! And will the turbo be front mount? And why do you want another wastegate? I have the same one on my 5.3 and works great. I know its always better to have more wastegate but if you are on a budget you can get away with one. BTW it looks like a fun build. Good luck man!

Ya im curious to see how this comes out. My Grandma has a 951 (944 turbo) and that 4 banger as you can see is practically laying over. The exhaust from teh factory goes down and under the motor and back up under the intake where the turbo lives, an the waste gate is crammed in the back there. Its kinda of a wide bay, but not very tall

Yes I will be back purging (term you're looking for) the whole crossover pipe, this will be my first time back purging as well. Thanks for the support, hopefully I can knock this project out quickly once I get the motor.

Didn't want to get too excited before I get this thing in the car.

COOL! Are you using high nickel content filler? I know there is a special filler for welding cast iron. And they should be slowly dropped to temperature so they don't crack.
Do those truck manifolds fit the engine bay?

I believe that the manifolds are more steel than anything (grind test). I did 3 passes on this one after pre heating and it came out great. I used standard 308L stainless filler. I let them cool naturally and there were no cracks at all, I got great penetration as well. I am waiting on my new parts to come in so I can weld up the v band cross over pipe and figure out where the turbo has to go.
As far as fitting... I hope so! haha
