Default Making Victor Jr progress for the 35 sedan

My Victor Jr about ready to install in my LS1 1935 sedan. My attempt to get a better intake path into the throttle body. I have a "nostalgia" 1949 Olds/Cad air cleaner with a K & N 4"X14" filter for it.

Looks good and I can't think of why it should not work well. It will definitely provide more "What the heck is that?" moments. Keep us posted, are you doing the cam swap at the same time?

Yes, keep us posted. More pleasing to the eye than the "elephant trunk".

I am taking this one step at a time, no cam change just yet. I should have it running this week, still working on the adapter to install the "nostalgia" 1949 Cad/Olds air cleaner...almost done. I've been asked why I don't go with a big throttle body...I don't think I need it for my purposes but time will tell.

Default The beast runs.

Just completed the install and have to fit the adaptor & air cleaner assembly but my friend did the tune last night and was very pleased. The car has the same low speed response and great "manners" in traffic but when you open it up you can tell "seat-of the pants" that it pulls much harder through the middle of the power range all the way up to the limiter.

The laptop guy thinks it would make perhaps 400 hp at the tire on a dyno. I will eventually talk my son into taking it to work with him so he can make a couple passes on the A&A Corvette dyno. I think 400 is pretty close, this is a hard pullin' 5.7 now even with the stock cam and heads.

I am pleased with the outcome and can't see a negative so far.

Great power and drivability. I should have done this years ago...the car is much quicker than before.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the Alliance member plaques. The HAMB guys don't like my car very much from the vibes I've gotten on there, so I don't usually say much about it.

X3...My thoughts also...

I think this idea is so bitchin'...need more of the streetrod crowd to get on board with the LS stuff.

First of all, the cost was minimal, the manifold came from Summit for somewhere around $300, the throttle body adaptor was under $30, the plate to adapt to the 4150 manifold flange was just a piece of .250" aluminum out of the scrap bin in the shop and of course some manifold seals topped off with the air cleaner from Summit as well for $125. The adaptor to install the carb type air cleaner on the throttle body was made by my brother with his small home milling machine. The speed density tune was covered by a friend who does this stuff for a living...freebie.

The guys on the HAMB have given me a hard time for over ten years. When I first posted a picture of the car before I dropped the body on the rails back in about 2000 or 2001...they were all "grasping their pearls", first of all they didn't know what the engine was. I kept telling them, "hey it was from the wrecking yard and it fits"...how TRADITIONAL can you get, a real hot rodder gets as much power for the least money and improves his ride. Correct?? As far as the fuel injection...some of those guys just don't get it. They kinda give me a pass these days, I suppose they realize that I still drive the car I started building in 1998...and 90% of the HAMB guys either don't drive their cars much, have sold the car or never finish them anyway. I still enjoy that board and sneak in a post now & then just for fun.

Unforeseen problems?? None really, I spend quite a bit of time eyeballing and planning a project before I jump into it. I was a bit apprehensive about how it would run with the Victor and a stock LS 78mm TB, I hoped it wouldn't kill the low speed "cruising" drivability and it didn't. I guess the biggest problem...the stock four-piece hood is so damn heavy I have to wait for my son to come over to help me drop the hood on it, I can't manage that thing alone. Maybe I'll cruise around for a bit with no hood...the car seems to really screw up traffic in town as the locals try to figure out what the hell it is!!

Wow, that is an impressive improvement from primarily just a manifold change and tune. Just shows how adaptable these motors are. Looking forward to hearing what the dyno says. I love your traditional response to the HAMB guys.

Now, how long before you can show us some pics of this cool little adaptation you've come up with??

Great response, kind of my thinking too, but like you say, some people just don't 'get it'. I dont really care what people think of the engine in my car either, I wouldnt swap it for a flathead foranything! (Well, maybe for the right thing, but I digress... Lol)

As for putting the hood on by yourself, be careful, them SOBs bite! I put mine on and got a finger where it shouldnt have been and it folded up and took some skin off.

Car looks great, cant wait to see the dyno numbers!

Default Auto correct sucks

So, that was a long time ago and a lot of water has passed under the bridge. The car is still my daily driver with only a few more changes over the years. I finally ditched the stock throttle body for a Holley Sniper 1000 cfm four barrel throttle body. The engine responded well to it but I had to convert it to a “progressive” linkage so low speed drivability would be better. At about 50% throttle it starts to open the back half of the TB and all hell breaks loose. I never made it to the chassis dyno so I never got any numbers but I doubt if it makes 400 at the tires, that might be a claim that the tune guy made so he looked a bit better.

I guess I need to go into my personal archives and grab some build shots from 1999 through 2006 to put together another build thread. I was using 35mm film in those early days and everything has been digitized now. We have it so easy these days with phones that take nice images...cameras that produce awesome images and tablets (like I use now) that work really great for this stuff.

Where were you in 1999? More stuff coming in a future thread.

That was me posting that. I guess I have two accounts. Anyway, to update, the car still runs great but cosmetically just a bit rough. In the past year I have added cruise control and changed the rear end to a new Curry 3.50 setup with a Tru-Trac. The only other change is the Wilwood from D52 calipers...really nice.

Most recent photo...needs paint now.
