Need advice on 5.3 swap So a few weeks ago i found a smoking deal on a 5.3 long block so i picked it up. The only real problem is a lifter went out and wiped that lobe out. I want to tear it down and re-gap the rings (they're super clean), get new rings, or a set of forged pistons suited for either boost or nitrous. I have quite a few questions like, should a run a truck intake or find a ls6? I plan to go with a pretty mild cam so im leaning towards the truck intake. this will also be a street truck. Do i really need forged pistons for 10-12 lbs of boost or a 200 shot? I would like the motor to last awhile but obviously not forever on a stock bottom end. Can i just find a truck that had a 5.3/4.8 and use that? I want to go t-56 but i feel like that will be later on. So far its looking like just new bearings, valvetrain, cleaned up heads (862s), and other simple things to go with. Once the build really gets rolling it will be on about a 5k budget so i'll either have to rebuild my th-350 laying around or pick up a 4l60e. I like the idea of nitrous but I've heard they handle boost better. This is my first ls swap so if anyone has any input i would be appreciated.
