on to the next project: 79 Malibu LS swap nonsense
#62
its a stock long block L33 with a cam (I don't remember the specs off hand but its not that big), stock F-body intake and throttle body.
I had a Fairmont wagon I sold a few months ago as a roller with this same engine and trans in it, bought the Malibu and dumped it in there.

If my car comes even close to that I'm gonna **** what do u think the weight difference is between your car and an 83 cutlass? Mine is heavier for sure plus a 4l80 will use up more hp getting power to the ground

I haven't weighed this car yet, im guessing its around 3300, the cutlass/grandprix seem to be considerably heavier, id estimate youre gonna be around 3600lb range with the 80e and all the other stuff.

while nothing specific to update this, I got a few PM's asking about the throttle cable I used because it looks stock. well it is lol
this is normally what I use:
GM part #12565560 which is for a 98-2002 Fbody without traction control
the cable out of the box is too long so what I do is hold the throttle blade open (I use a pair of vice grips and a rag on the throttle arm and the aluminum housing of the throttle body - don't murder it just have enough grip to hold it open) I route the cable into the car and push the gas pedal down as far as itll go, mark the cable and take it out. I cut the factory crimp off the cable and use a picture hanging cable ferrule and crimp it on in the new location (you can find them pretty much at any hardware store/homedepot/lowes). this has worked great for me, are the other ways to do this? sure. do they work? sure. this is the most factory looking IMO though.
hopefully that helps some people out.
I also picked up a 4L60E last night I found on Craigslist and tore it down tonight. the guy said it was slipping and he definitely wasn't lying haha. hopefully I can order some parts and get this together sooner than later but I probably wont swap out the TH350 till after the new year.

I got a couple questions if you have a second boss. First of all, what reference did you use to rebuild the 60e? Did you do it off experience or is there a book/video you would recommend? Id like to do a build on a spare one this summer. Second, do you ever seen Denmah up there at Island? I know he is constantly on the verge of getting kicked out of the track in those turbo terrors he has.
