Default 1st gen header size and brand

Well, I'm getting closer and closer to finishing the project. But now I'm at a tough decision. I have a head and cam ls7 going in my 68 firebird and I have no clue what size to go with. A lot of people have said 1 7/8, but then others say 2".

Has anyone used the kooks or arh swap headers? Trying to find out which had the best fit. Thanks for looking guys

Daniel

Daniel,

Does anyone actually make 2" swap headers?

You may wish to consider some other aspects of the headers in question, other than just tube diameter, to determine if they will meet your project goals. Larger diameter tubes use up more of the available clearance in a specific application than smaller diameter tubes do and sometimes necessitate the use of quirky bend geometry to get them to fit.

This would include routing one or more primary tubes over the top of the others near the port flange, which can greatly reduce spark plug/wire clearances or crowd the power steering lines were they exit the steering box.

On the passenger side of the engine it usually means that the headers will not be compatible with the stock A/C box, which may or may not be important to you.

It's worth thinking of such things as you may being willing to accept a minimal trade off in top-end HP for fitment/serviceability that is more optimized for a street/strip car.

Thanks for the response, I get ya on what you said. I was hoping to get some people to chime in that have used the larger size headers and what they have to say about them. I appreciate the thoughts though.

Maybe a set of stepped headers would work better in your situation.

I haven't seen any stepped setups for the swap.. But I would much rather do that
