I cut the torsion bars off the bravada chassis, and inserted category 0 tractor top links in place of shock absorbers. That way I can adjust the attitude of the frame section when welding into cougar subframe. I noticed that the Bravada front anti-sway bar is 1.25" whereas the cougar one is 1.125". A little bonus.

I am using a first gen Bravada because it has a mechanical AWD system and a narrower track than later models. The Bravada track measured 4.25" less than the cougar. Although, the Bravada also uses a wheel with a positive offset. Hopefully I will be able to fit a wider tire in front.

Just stripped off the front suspension. Probably go to work tomorrow to start cutting the front of bravada frame.

ambitious project your taking on there will be interesting to watch.

I have never autocrossed anything but isn't small cubes and turbo the opposite of what you would think would work best? I am thinking instant on and off power like more cubes and an sc would provide would match the task better but again I have never done it so wtf do I know lol

Thanks for your interest. Some of the fastest cars I've seen in autocross have been small cubes, AWD and turbocharged. They don't look as cool as a cougar though. This shouldn't be too difficult of a mod. I'm used to doing a lot of metal fab.

I just cut the doner frame section and brought it home.

This is the last rig i built and my current daily driver. Custom 3-link front suspension with 18" coilovers, dana 60s, and a 4 cyl cummins turbodiesel. Oh, and it was in the dec '14 issue of Four Wheeler magazine.

Lol. I haven't seen it all, know it all, or have done it all. All I'm doing is patching in a frame section with suspension that has been engineered into a subframe with roughly the same dimensions. No rocket science involved. Its not like I'm engineering suspension and steering components from scratch. Already did that on my bronco. I just wanted to try something different.

Anyhow, tonight I'll be moving crap around in my shop so I can get the new frame member in front of the car so I can get some precise measurements before I get the Plasms cutter fired up. Cleaning grunge off cougar frame and sanding down to bare metal at patch junctions........after I drill 12- 2' wide holes 4' deep for the neighbors pole barn.....after work.

Yes. I made it. That is the top of "hogsback" in the Tillamook state forest. I stuffed the right front tire into the been to make it a little harder.

Its amazing how many honeydo things my wife can come up with. All I succeeded in doing so far was to make enough room in garage to bring the Bravada frame section in.

Still have a few things to remove from engine bay yet.

Gotta lose the A/C crap to make room for the intercooler.

Here is the '99 4.8 I'll be putting in. I'll need to get ahold of a car manifold.

Tonight I did a bunch of measuring. I cut the rear section of the Bravada frame15&1/8" behind the hub centerline with my plasma cutter. I will cut the front section of the Bravada frame 19&1/2" front of hub centerline which will be about an inch behind the rad core support.

Cleaned frame so i could make some cut marks

My wife got me this hood ornament for fathers day 3 years ago. For my "HellCat" cougar project. Deathproof movie is my inspiration.

The Bravada rear driveshaft yoke is a bit bigger than the cougar one. 1 & 7/8" verses 1 & 1/2". Bravada output shaft is 32 spline. I'm assuming that the TC input is the smaller 27, or 28 spline. I was originally going to use the 4L60 transmission, then beef it up after it breaks. But, I think that I'll use a TH400 instead, and change the axle ratios from 3.73 to 3.08.

With a turbo 4.8 you would grenade the 4l60e. The 400 will be a lot stronger.

Yes. I agree. I would rather only have to build driveshafts once. I thought I read on syty.net that the '94 typhoon transfer case had a 32 spline input shaft. I guess it would be too lucky to have the 32 spline input in my '94 brvada transfer case. I'll pull it off the back of the 4L60 tonight to confirm.
