Its been a while since I have been really too busy to mess with the truck lately. But today I finished the engine/trany side of the harness and got it wired up. Still need to tie in the ecm to the truck itself. Went to mount the stock truck PS/Alt bracket with the PS pump on it to see if it would fit, NOPE, the PS pump does not clear the steering box. What is a good stock setup I can get from a salvage yard that will work? Don't want to spend a bunch of money on it.
Also I hope to get my rear end back from my buddy that's building it. Picked up a Big end 9" and narrowed it to 50" which is 4 inches more narrow than the stock rear end and has a back brace on it. Has Moser axles with a full spool and 3.89 gear. A pair of Wilwood calipers that I had lying around off an old drag car. He is not trying to figure out the correct dimensions for the caliper bracket which also holds the axles in.

Yea, that just might work. Looks like it might have about 1/4 inch between the box and the reservoir once it gets completely installed. I'm headed to Summit.com right now. LOL. I need a couple other items anyway.

I got the PS pump done. Had to fab the rear pump mount and set the pump back about 1/4 inch to get the pulley to line up. Finished more of the wiring. All that's left now is the truck to ecm. Hooked up power to the truck and it did something strange. Buzzer stays on in the cab no matter what the key position is in, and when I turn the key to start, the under dash done light comes on. So, yea, that's cool. LOL Once I get the wiring figured out I can put the front clip back on.
I turned gas into noise anyway. I wish it had a cam in it.

Well I got the ignition wireing complete today. Just need to hook up the speedo, tach and TCC wires. Drill a hole in the water pump for the new gauge. I did get the front clip and bumper back on the truck today so its starting to look like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Things to still do.
Install the 9" rear
Get the driveshaft made
Buy and install a radiator
Do some fab to the air intake so it all fits.
Buy wheels and tires.
Make the true dual exhaust.
Put the bed back on and then mount the fuel cell and battery.
And unless I am missing something right now, Go drive it.

Yea the power to weight should already make it fun, but I come from a long past of race cars from 400 to 1200hp. So hearing a stock cammed engine in what is going to be a fun street truck isn't right to me. Plus I am going to want more power before long. LOL

nice job on the swap so far man! I am in the beginning stages of building a 408 to swap into either my 2000 rcsb 2.2 or I might look for a diff s10 to swap it into & keep the 2000 for my daily. Either way I'll be checking out your thread for inspiration! Good work man!

Thanks Jay, this one will most likely be getting a built engine later down the road. I want to try a turbo setup, but I know nothing about them right now.
I might keep to my original plan. Get it built and on the road stock just to get it done and make sure I get the wiring ect right. I wasn't concerned about the mechanical parts working out. I can get stuff to fit or make them fit. It was the wiring that I was worried about the most since I had never messed with a swap or engine that needed this much wiring and making sure its right.
The bigger more HP engine may not happen though as we lost our local track. So I have no where to take it now. I really don't see the need for a real high hp street engine. This isn't the 405 . I don't plan to street race anymore.

Well, here she is. Narrowed 9", 3.89 Richmond gear on a full spool, Moser axles and Wilwood dual piston calipers. Calipers were laying around in my garage, the disc are from a 8,8 rear I had laying on the side of my garage.
Now I get to see if its going to fit. By our measurements before building it, it was going to be tight. Now that its here, it looks to be even tighter. I have my doubts right now.

Yea. This rear will hold over 1000hp and hard launches so it will do fine. I did get it in thr truck today. Had to cut the ends of the back brace about 3 inches to give me room for the mount and u bolts. Need to get the bolts and spring plates. And also the wheels and tires so I can put it on the ground so I can set the pinion angle. Then I can weld the mounts onto the rear.
Havent messed with the wiring today. Got tired of laying upside down under the dash.
