I just purchased a 79 fairmont and a 2013 6l80e Trans.
I am trying to find out a couple things.
I would like to run a paddle shifter on the steering wheel to retain tap up/tap down gear changes on the 6l80e.
Am I stuck to using a 58x reluctor style motor only?
I don't want to spend 695 on my psi wiring harness to then turn around and spend another 1000 to get the tap up tap down function to still work.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks
Tony

I think all you will need is the purple wire(pin 7) coming off the 6l80 transmission connector and run it inside the cabin area. That is the tap shift control wire. Then follow the directions and hook it up to what ever tap shift controller you decide to buy.
As to the 58X reluctor I think the only ECM that controls the 6L80 is 58X. However you can have a 58X reluctor welded onto your crankshaft if it is say the 24X type.
