Default Dakota digital vss wiring question.

OK I have the pass through generator going to a turbo 350 the Grey wire hooks to the low reference wire. What do I do with the high output wire (purple)? The dakota sensor has a Grey wire and a Black wire. Do I just ground the black wire to the frame. Using the mechanical speed 0. The instructions says to ground to speed 0 but I think that's if you're using an electric one I do believe.

I work for Dakota Digital. Have you resolved your issue with the pass thru generator yet?

No I have not got it working yet. I'm trying to figure out if both wires (black and grey) on the pulse generator need to be hooked up to both of the wires in my harness (one is 4000 pulse the other is 128000 pulse) or do I only hook up the smaller pulse and just chassis ground the other wire.

From your TH350 what is it going to? Speedometer? ECM? Cruise Control?

It's going to the ecm. It's a 2004 5.3 with a 350 turbo tranny behind it.

The pass thru pulse generator puts out 8,000 PPM. Is your ECM flashed to accept that? commonly they are set at 128K PPM

I'm running an 02 and 05 ecu with the DD VSS. Hook up the 2 wires from the VSS to the hi and low ecu leads. I think I used the black for low, but don't think it matters since the body of the VSS isn't grounded.
You can have the ecu flashed for the correct ppm from the DD VSS but don't necessarily have to. I've run both ways with a manual trans and it cured stalling issues.
The ppm rate is not high enough to provide a stable signal for the GM DBW cruise control to work.

High pulse is 128000 low side is 4000 . I have hp tuners and can change it to the 8000 pulse of the generator. I'm just curious if both wires need to be hooked up to the high and low pulse wires going to the ecm or one wire to the ecm and the other to a chassis ground. The instructions say to hook the ground/black wire to the speed ometer but I think that is just for electric speed ometers I'm using the factory one in my 55 so I'm trying to figure out exactly how to wire this up so the ecm can see car movement and not stall when slowing down and or quick stops.

Thank you Gary. I have read thread after thread on this and got nowhere. A lot of people say they use them and work great but when asked about the wiring they were never given an answer. Thank you again I will hook it up that way in the next couple days and will let everyone know if it worked out.

This works:
Hook up the 2 wires from the VSS to the hi and low ecu leads.

What VSS and ecu are you using?

Im sorry lol. Im running a Dakota Digital with a th400 with a 99-02 f body pcm. Its an electric sensor from the trans to the box then its a cable from the box to the cluster so that my stock mustang speedo will work.

Wait, from vss sensor to what "box"?

IIRC the DD pass thru VSS has a black and grey wire.
The ecu has a VSS low, and VSS hi (ecu pins 20, 21?).
Just wire the VSS black lead to the vss low, and grey to vss hi.
Worked for me.

Dakota Digital sent me a "converter" box so the trans can have an electric speedo sensor but still have the speedo in the cluster cable driven. That was I can run my stock cluster. The DD part number is ECD-100

Got the vss hooked up and it works great! Hooked Grey wire on the Dakota digital piece to the green wire (low signal) on the engine harness and the black wire on the Dakota digital piece to the purple (high signal) on the engine harness. And it no longer stalls/dies when letting off the throttle. It does not read proper speed but that's fine it does what I needed it to and no longer dies. Thank you Garys 68 for your help.

So you can run the cable through the VSS to your mechanical speedo.
Throw away the "box".
Wire the DD VSS directly to the ecu as directed in my last post.
If you ever want to run an electric speedo, most can run off the stock ecu speedo output.

Just an FYI,
If the ecu is looking for the stock 40 tooth reluctor, the DD VSS will cause it to read very low, like 5mph on the hiway. That fixes the stalling issues so you can leave it that way. You can reprogram the ecu to be read correctly, but doesn't really matter.
The opposite is not true Strange things happen when the ecu reads about 165mph. Apparently there's a speed limiter built in. It's kinda shocking when you hit it at about 20 mph.

Well I need the box to run my stock cluster. Is there a was of splicing the wires from the speedo sensor to the PCM so that it doesn't stall at stops? I dont need the PCM to read actual MPH is just need it to read something when the car is moving and 0 when the car is not moving.
