Mini update! Asked my dad to throw the push rods in and valve covers on. Main reason was so he could prime it so its not a rust ball inside when I finally get to it. I would have done it myself but being 13 hours away and having snow threatening both areas it was ideal. Especially, because, 8A.M. tomorrow I will be driving cross country for the first NHRA event of the year. Enough of the boring stuff, on to the pictures.
First race in Pomona is this weekend, we are traveling there now. After this weekend I get flown home to Ma! I get to make some more progress, not sure how much but hopefully some.
Ordered a 65-68 Mustang gas tank as a poor man's between the rails tank. Also ordered a repro dash made to hold a 5 inch tach and speedo as well as four 2-5/8" gauges. Got a majority of the gauges picked out, just need to figure out the details on a few of the senders/compatibility. If all goes well I should be home Wednesday night and get to play with it.
coming along pretty smoothly!! I was tossing around the idea of putting a t56 in my c10 but i havent really seen anyone do it and heard many of the cons abt it... Like you i wouldnt be pulling stuff with it, it would just be a weekend and after work cruiser! Keep up the work and get this thing done when you have the time

I'm on my flight home from Phoenix now. I'll be doing all the work I can to it while I'm home! Thanks for the motivation!
Sweet project dude! I'm gathering up parts for my cam'd 5.3/4l80e swap on my '89 K5 right now and love seeing other square body swaps for motivation
Thanks man! That should be a fun one! If you've got a build thread post the link or pm it to me if you want. I love seeing other builds for motivation and ideas.
Mini update, tax return is going to buy me a K member that cuts 150 pounds off the front end. Also have enough saved up for the headers, should be purchasing them soon!
So, headers have been ordered, getting a quote on the k member, and might be ditching the swap mounts for a set of motor plates. I've been super busy between traveling to races and moving in to a new apartment with my girlfriend. Hopefully, I can gather more parts quick so I can get some more progress done on it next time I'm home.
Another mini update, headers were ordered forever ago and still haven't arrived. Finally got a message saying they should be at the race shop when we get back from the Western swing. The k member should also be done and there by the time I get back. Been thinking a little bit about my current cam selection. I'm going to run the current cam for the break in and initial tuning, see what it makes all motor. Then, I'll be switching over to another off the shelf Comp cam. Whichever makes the most will be the one I run but, thats pretty far down the line. I've got to get the chassis work done first and then get the engine in and running. I'm hoping to get a bunch done whenever the next time I'm home.
I haven't updated this in forever. Been busy with the last few races of the year. I decided I'm all done working on the top fuel team so, I'll have a lot more time to work on the truck and drive it. I'm going to be moving back home to Massachusetts in the near future. Back to the build, I ended up picking up 2 sets of 29.5x10.5x15 slicks.
Finished my steam lines.
Wanted to see the headers on the motor.
Ended up getting the new k member in the truck and got it rolling.
Pulled the gas tank/fuel lines out and then the front clip to have better access to the frame so we can get the motor situated to mount the motor plate and mid plate.
Got rid of the flimsy stamped crossmember up front and tied the rails together with some square stock for now. When everything is roughed in and in its final resting spot I'll tie the rails together with 1.5" tubing.
Used one of my spare 5.7 blocks to mock it up with some junk heads.
Sorry been a little hectic lately. Skyview Racing and Fabrication makes the K member. It was $4100 for the K member. It pretty much comes with enough to put it on and together, bleed the brakes, throw wheels on, and roll. It weighs 150lbs less than stock, requires motor plates or for you to make pedestals to mount the motor mounts. Its all brand name stuff, QA1 shocks, Wilwood brakes, Flaming River rack. It may be little steep but, its got lots of advantages. It changes the bolt pattern to 5x4.75 so you have greater wheel options. Also, widens the front track for a better stance with skinnies.
looks custom. billet spindles. porterbuilt probably a fair bit less than that.
While Porterbuilt is far less this is in a different category. This is a drag racing K member. And 95% of it is off the shelf stuff. Those are off the shelf cast Nova/Camaro spindles. Brake kit is for Camaro/Nova. Upper and lower ball joints are as well. The tie rod sleeves are pretty much the only custom thing. Off the shelf QA1 Shocks, Afco Springs, Flaming River rack, TRZ motorsports billet steering arms, spindles are 2 inch drop spindles from Summit.
