X brace for firewall done. This is probably overkill and will make the firewall harder to remove, but everything on this car fits so nice I want to keep anything from moving.

Took a little "persuasion", but it's out. Didn't bend anything too bad. Can't wait to see what the new one looks like, but I'm shutting down the shop early today for a Fathers Day dinner.

 

I think you did good with the X brace. It has potential to get "floppy" otherwise.

 

The x brace turned out to be too far forward to install the new firewall.....made some new pieces and cut the bottom 2 legs of the original. Took off some parts today including cowl vent assembly, windshield, dash, etc.

 

I wasn't aware Bitchin' Products has a new name until I bought my firewall. For anybody who needs to locate them they are now Absolute Sheet Metal LLC. Anyway, it's a big block firewall and the cowl area still needs a little body work and prep work before it is there to stay. It sure changes the looks of the car....for the better!

 

Great looking firewall - I wonder why Bitchin' changed the name? Probably not PC anymore.

 

From what I was told on the phone someone bought the business. Same people, same dies, same same etc. Not sure if the new owner had to change the name or if it was by choice.

After SEVERAL hours (nights actually) of moving metal around I think the firewall is as close as its ever going to be. Here is the final fit with the hood line looking really nice. I'll be out of pocket for a few weeks . More soon.......

Good work on your 37 I wish I had time to work on mine due to all the work hours. I just my motor back and fitting it in checking clearances and brake booster placement. finding the rear end welded in wrong. motor mounts 1/2 inch off side to side and the brake booster bracket was pre fit and cut too short and wont touch the frame and new crossmember by the guy I hired to work on it. He even hacked the new front floor a bit. Every thing has to be redone and even my rear end brackets have to be re purchased and trimmed to fit in the correct location. So tired of paying people to do things wrong. Only thing I do know is my motor is right I watched it get built and measured by a very trust worthy person. I will keep watching to keep my inspiration up.

 

Finally back on the project. Welded all the plug welds around the firewall today. Then I welded the area in the picture from the inside and worked it back down with a grinder. It gives it a nice finished look so I think I'm going to continue like this the rest of the way around.

This is my first firewall that I have installed and now it is done. Put a little primer on it this morning just to prevent rust until it gets to the body shop. Next on the list is to locate some motor mounts.

 

I borrowed an F body pan for the mock up. Bought a lift plate for the motor and some Chassis Engineering motor mounts. The mounts do not meet the frame and it appears they need to be about 3/4" longer per side. This is a good stopping point before I head to the Street Rod Nationals in a couple of days. I'm going to take one of my frame mounts with me to see if Chassis might make longer ones.
