Guys, i put the original thread in tools and fab, but a quick search shows most of the talk about this product coming from this forum.

Would love to hear some thoughts.

Hey JohnnyFbomb. My feedback will probably be different then you'll get from most users here due to the fact that I design/model headers and exhaust systems professionally and have been at it for 17 years. I have access to the icengineworks blocks at my place of work and have used them occasionally, but not as much as one might think. In my opinion, they're greatest value as a learning tool for someone starting out who may not have yet develop good spatial senses for mentally envisioning a workable tube layout within a given design envelope.

You can quickly iterate something close to good with these blocks to get a look at a general routing scheme, but the discrete bend degree of the angle blocks does not allow an optimized design to be achieved in most cases. It's common to need a bend that is at least 5 to 10 degrees less than the blocks provide and you have to cut them on a band saw and Superglue them back together, which is not very efficient. Those of us with header building experience can arrive at a better design working directly with physical metal U-bends in less time and with little waste. I've used the blocks twice in three years, so they are not a "go-to" tool in my arsenal.

That looks pretty neat.
What about getting some pool/ beach floating noodles, trim them to the proper diameter, cut slices out of the sides along the length to make it flexible and shove a few straightened coat hangers down the middle to make it retain its shape. Basically make giant pipe cleaners.
Clearly I'm not a professional and wouldn't try to make a jig out of it, but seems like a super cheap way for Joe Average to play around with ideas in the garage.

I like the idea of a lower cost version of the iceengineworks system.

I agree with Toddoky that a good experienced fabricator would most likely not use them very often, but the idea has merit for the home builder/small shop that does not do header design/fabrication often. These type of blocks and cutting guides are handy for the DIY crowd, but the ice product is expensive for someone doing just a set or two of headers.

Now, my idea would be a kit that can be "leased" for a period of time in a given size for the home builder that might want to build a custom set of headers for their project. I for one would be interested in this option. The logistics and shipping costs would have to be reasonable to work, but would be better then shelling out $1500 for the complete ice set. Even their basic building block kits are over 400.

Thanks for the input, guys. Now i know why there isn't a cheap alternative. There really is no demand for it.

Split Foam pipe insulation from the box store... Cut thin wall pipe to length and slide inside to hold shape. The Lego stuff looks awesome, just can't justify the cost.
