1976 Chevy C10 4.8l/4l60e swap
Hi all Here is my '76 swap. As the title states little LSx swap into a '76. I bought this truck for almost nothing due to the high back fee's. I went to DMV and negotiated the fees down. It didn't have a drive train, drive shaft or radiator. It was an original bucket seat truck that was robbed of its goodies and built here in the Bay Area at the Fremont plant.
Its up and running and I am working on the exhaust at the moment. I am doing a 2.5" to 3" y-pipe with a single 3" out through a Magnaflow. I have modded the harness with help from the lt1swap web site and using the 2002 truck fuse box.
I also used Dirty dingo engine mounts and Trail Blazer SS exhaust manifolds. The fuel system is an '87 tank and sender unit, using the Dorman nylon fuel system kit with a summit heat sleeve for the fuel lines running up the back of the transmission.
I had to do a drive shaft for this truck, I bought a used 2002 silverado aluminum shaft and had it cut down and figured out what conversion u-joint to use.
The cooling system is made up of a Griffin radiator dedicated to this swap. I used a T in the heater hose for the coolant temp sender, and an Autometer oil pressure switch adapter for the oil pressure gauge.

I had to relocate the cross member back and run an add on trans cooler. I do plan on running the EVAP system to help reduce the amount fuel smell in the garage.
I am also looking into modifying an s10 speedometer to use in this swap.

Engine bay pic with the radiator, fan and fan shroud in. I am still trying to figure out a permanent mount for the air filter box. The wiring under the hood 90% done. Just a few loose ends to tie up.

You might look into a 89-91 Suburban cluster as they are electronic speedo. I put one of those in my 87 Suburban when I swapped in a 5.3 and 4L60e. You have to repin a few of the wires to the cluster but it was an easy swap.

im going to get thread going on my 4door shortbox 1/2 ton i put together. getting stuff cleaned & painted for most part rite now. 06 5.3 with a 4L60E (01 or 02) going in shorty headers, shaved truck intake, wiring i did Lt1Swap as did buick but left fuse panel underhood(cavalier box) pcm/fuse box made bracket to mount together- i will get pic later. just too much going on to get together. i bought 2010 caravan now for driver burnt seats/interior. drives looks shitty/stinks inside. so little more important at moment.

Did any of these have clusters have a tach?

since the OP has not posted in 2 years, I will put out that the 4L80 fit just fine in my 2WD square body with Dingo mounts and a custom transmission cross member. A 4L60 should clear by a mile.

Not so, if the clearance issue is located at the rear of the case where it meets the extension housing, the 4L60 is far bulkier than a 4L80.

News to me, I have both transmissions sitting in the shop and the 60e is way shorter and looks to be narrower that the 80e..... Ill have to measure them up to see.
