Default LSXREX V2 (done with the stock'ness)

So after putting about 5k miles on my LS1/T56 swapped 04 RX8, I've decided to make some changes. It actually all started out as swapIn the trans for a built trans. Motor and trans were a bit tired and the trans was starting to get a bit notchy. As I was pulling it apart, I started getting ideas. Just kinda spiraled out of control from there. Here's a short list of what's getting changed.

Level 2 T56 (new mainshaft, synchros, blockers, steel fork, bronze parts, and
billet keys/springs)
FD 3.90 gears with a Torsen LSD
222/228 Lunati cam
fresh longblock with new bearings and rings
18" Chromium Black XXR 530s
Spec stage 2 clutch
3" Borla exhaust
Poly diff mounts
Relocating the PCMs
Running hard fuel line instead of the pushlock hose

This is finals week so I've been studying. This weekend ill getting started. Should come together quick but I'll take more detailed pics for anyone interested in doing the swap themselves. Here are some before pics and walkaround video of it when it was "stock."

Nice work. I don't think I'd have the confidence to tear into a T56, having no prior experience. Are there any good write-ups to follow for that?

I was following your eBay ad back in March. I thought it sold. Did your buyer welsh on the deal?

yeah the douchebag that won emailed me with a cry baby case about how.his.wife will divorce him if he pays for it. had a friend dig into him and found out hes a 23 yr old motorcycle salesman in Arizona that got an Associates in English. even found a few personal ads for that guy. anyway, had lots of.interest but i.fuvured while i was waiting to sell it, id make it a bit more exciting to drive. T56s are cake to rebuild. ive done many of them. way easier than an auto which isnt that tough at all.

I saw it several times on Austin CL, I was just surprised you chose an engine with that many miles for the swap. Pretty clean, though.

100k miles isn't a lot. Most people who mention a low mile number are usually lying. LS are literally the most reliable platform on the planet. The only thing blown was my mind when I pulled the caps off my very near 400k mile 5.3 swapped C10.

X2 100k miles is nothing. I had the opportunity to look at the internals of a 325k mile LQ4 and I was amazed! Looked new.

Really cool build!

Just thought I would mention that I am enjoying this build thread and that I do not see the value in non-constructive banter in build threads. You may notice some posts missing or modified. Carry on.

Very nice!

How much will the rear end take? I know the mount issues in the speed6's, does the RX8 have the same issues?

Not sure on how much the rear can take. It's the same as the FD so as long as slicks or big sidewall tires aren't used, big power shouldn't be an issue. There's a guy in San antonio with a stalled car leaving hard as hell in his nitrous RX8 with stock rear. Holding up fine so far. I opted for the mechanical LSD for the strength. The viscous LSD in the rx8 is a bit of a turd anyway.

Got the motor on the subframe, clutch installed, trans mated to motor, and started the harness. Also go the tires on the wheels. Good chance the car will be sitting under its own weight tomorrow. Worked late so lighting in the pics isn't that great.

Its a balancer machined by PowerBond. It has a reluctor machined into it. That is one of the better pieces from Hinson. Well thought out. The other kits use an aluminun spacer and long bolt that the stock reluctor bolts to. Kills clearance up front as its miles in front of the stock balancer. Plus its an underdrive pulley. And the pickup bracket is a nice billet aluminum piece versus the brake bent aluminum piece. I swear if Hinson put up a detailed thread about their swap kit, tbeh would sell like crazy.

Got the motor and trans in the car. Loving the color! The wiring harness is built and just needs to have the C1/C2 plugs on and wires extended. The PCMs will be under the front bumper cover out of sight. I built a drip shield for them as well.

I can't belive I spent a bit more than half a day building this shifter shaft. Just a continuous process of tack, hammer, cut, oops, redo. I used a formed handle from a B&M Ripper shifter. The straight handle of the MGW made it a bit awkward. But it was dead center and looked stock. The new position looks wierd but feels OH SO GOOD. The angle is perfect. I'm currently trying to source a stock rx8 shift **** so I can build a handle to make it look stock. But the T56 doesn't like short handles unless you have Herculean delts.

Got the wheels and tires on as well. Missing a hundred or so lbs in the front so it's a bit 4x4ish right now. Absolutely love the look of the car now. I painted the calipers to match the motor. Very subtle but nice.

Nice swap, I bet thats a good power to chassis combo. What did you have to do to get the cluster to work?
