MAF Sensor Location On Intake Tube Question

MAF Sensor Location On Intake Tube Question LS newbie here. Does it matter where the MAF sensor is located on the intake tube? In other words, can it be mounted right behind the air filter or even as it enters the DBW/manifold?

I dont think it matters where it is in the intake, just as long as it is in there somewhere AFTER the air filter. You def need to filter the air before the MAF. The stock location on the 98-2002 f-bodies is just in front of the TB. On a turbo or forced induction setup, it has to be AFTER whatever type of FI you are using. It wouldn't make any sense to have the MAF before the turbo, cause you wouldn't be monitoring the pressurized side of the system. So long story short, I would try to get it as close to the throttle body as possible, that way all the bases are covered no matter what type of induction you are using.
If you check the GM literature on swaps, they recommend it in a strait section of tubing, several inches from the TB. Mounting it in a curved section or close to the TB can result in uneven flow across it.
