DD LS 350Z Build!
#26
Big update for you guys! Been very very busy! The Z is officially up and running! Still lots more to do before its completely finished but it drives and its a MONSTER!
Didn't have that many pics to take towards the end of the build but still have a few to share.
Ended up going with some slim fans instead of the stock fans. I highly recommend doing this as it frees up TONS of room in front of the engine bay. Looks great, inexpensive and super easy to install.
I had to remount my coils because I was hitting the firewall on the passenger side. Order a nice set of brackets on ebay that keeps them nice and compact.
Then cut the stock coil brackets and welded the new bracket to the stock ones.
Got a set of Speedhut gauges. Tach(not yet installed), coolant temp, oil pressure and volt meter. Pretty easy install for the center gauges. Tach looks pretty tough...

Time for some drivin!
This thing is a blast to drive and its a freaking beast! Everything is working perfect and it runs awesome! So torquey now and it just wants to go! Already have put about 170 miles on it within 24 hours no problems so far except for a ground coming loose on my engine harness. Runs fantastic but really really needs a tune. Lots of dead spots, sputtering and cam surge at low rpms. Gotta keep the revs up and then its perfect. My trans shifts perfect and better than any other T56 I've owned. Clutch is mind blowingly perfect. Brand new clutch and zero chatter whatsoever. So smooth and already felt broken in on the first drive. Drives like a factory clutch. All the fun has come to an end though because Chicago just got it's first snow but at least I got it on the road in time!

Also got the dyno tune done.
She made 399whp and 375wtq. Bit disappointed to be honest considering this motor made 433whp previously on the camaro it came out of and I should have a much better exhaust setup, as well as less of a drivetrain loss. Oh well but what I'm really pissed about is that I left with a broken transmission. Nobody said a word to me about it just sent me home with 3rd and 4th gears grinding. I watched it get tuned on the dyno and thought I heard gears grinding, figured it must be something else but sure enough I heard right. Brought it there working perfect but the shop claims they were having problems with it right of the bat. No idea what the hell happened but now I got a trans to rebuild....

I know dyno's can be different, but you claim better exhaust and less drivetrain loss than the Camaro and STILL 30hp down? Seems like a bit much. I could see being off 10 or so.
Looks great. Congrats!
