Default Did I score?

I picked this up a little bit ago. It is supposed to be a 2014 5.3 from a pick up with a 4l80. Mileage around 23k. Paid $1500 for it. Since I am a newbie around these engines can anyone tell me what it is or how to figure it out? I will have lots of questions....................

You scored the sh!7 out of that! That's probably an L83 EcoTec3, and that's a 6L80E 6 speed automatic, not a 4 speed... 355hp/383tq

It's not really an LSx engine, but I guess more of an LTx (truck engine based on the new vette LT1)... I don't think anyone has really attempted to swap anything that new into something yet, so there may be a learning curve to follow.

Man I hope that thing wasn't stolen originally! That is a awesome deal though. My brother has that same combination in his 2014 Silverado and that thing moves!

No not stolen. This guy has a little shop with a bunch of wrecked trucks and cars he buys at auction. Yeah that is one huge trans. I will probably have to build a new floor to get it to fit in my little Luv truck.

I have been doing some research on this one. Man, variable valve timing, direct injection, cylinder deactivation. I wonder if all that stuff can be retained when they reflash the computer. Cool part is if you run e85 it puts out 385hp. WEEEEEE!

Oh btw I dont think he checked on the value of these before he sold it to me. 7k on Ebay. I hope it runs, LOl

I do not know how picky these new motors are. But you may want to go back to the guy you purchased it from and get the pedal/plug assembly for it too.

Besides that you stole that motor!

I believe that PSI has already got these motors figured out. Give them a call and see if they can help you.

A few months back I found a 6.2L 2014 truck engine on Car-parts.com It was a DI engine. The yard only wanted ABOUT $4500 I don't recall exactly. I checked again about 2 weeks later and it was gone.

This would make for a great swap, stock, as a unit, into an older truck. But I see all sorts of issues with putting it into a vehicle where you have to swap the trans or the accessory drive. The Gen V engines use unique water pumps, etc...so there isn't the variety of options that is available for gen III and Gen IV engines.

Good thing you got the ECU...was there a TCU as well? Need that.

How difficult would it be to put this engine in a newer car say like a 2000 and up mustang that has to pass inspection? The reason I ask is I called Psi and he said they can not mate the harness to a newer vehicle and recommends a 95 or older. Any build threads out there? Oh and he also said that they are about a year out from getting this engine figured out.

Good question. I think I saw something about 97?-back Mustang gauges were simpler than later ones; maybe the newer ones need the Ford BCM?

If the ECM has all needed inputs so it thinks it's in the truck, it can be done. If it needs the truck dash wiring, going to a BCM you didn't get, it gets harder.

Probably better off using aftermarket gauges in what ever vehicle you end up swapping it into?

Frig, if you install AND wire in a pre 98 Mustang cluster, you can make it work. The later clusters run on data bus for a lot of stuff and you wont get it to work. For inspection, you need a functional MIL. Tach is easy as hooking up a regular tach, speedo will need a signal converter for that. Temp and Oil is done by adapting the stock Mustang senders to the motor.

From the sounds of it, you dont really have the electrical understanding to do something like this and would probably be best if you find a QUALIFIED and EXPERIENCED electrical shop that is well versed in not just LS style swaps, but has an expert understanding of how to make electronics work and not just fixing stock vehicles.

Or use CAN bus gauges that can tap into the ECU data stream. That's what I would do. Why install redundant sensors when the ECU already monitors everything you might want a gauge to display?
