Default S&P LS-1 Conversion mounting plates - Any Problems???

Mark and I are working on his Vette, and went to install the motor on Saturday, and we have a problem with the engine mounts. The frame was set up for a standard GM small block chevy, so since he descided to use a LS-1 bought the S&P relocation brackets for the engine block. Well it appears that the mounts are about 1/2" to 3/4" (overall) too far apart and the bolt holes for the "through" bolt do not line up.

Just looking for peoples feed back. Thanks!

Default S&P mounts

Yes, I had the same problem with my Ventura when using their adapter plates. I just made the holes in the frame a little oblong and slid the original steel frame mounts up some. Although this raises the motor slightly. I also read where someone cut and shortened the steel frame mounts some to fix the problem. Which would keep the motor at the correct height.

I have bought a lot of stuff from S and P over the last few years and the one and only part I remember fitting without modification was an EGR blockoff plate for an LT1. I bought a set of accessory brackets for a SBC and the pass side bracket had 3 holes but only 1 lined up with the 3 holes in the heads. When I called them to ask, they said, "it should fit, but if not just drill and tap the heads" They are a poor company to deal with, but sometimes you have to, cause they are they only ones even attempting to make certain parts.

I had the same problem also. I used Energy Suspension mounts with them and thought maybe they were the problem. I guess they were not the problem after all. I just oblonged the holes in the Energy Sus. mounts and finallly got them to line up.

Thanks for the replies. At first I was worried the custom fabbed frame was our problem, but they are jig welded so I had a very hard time believing. Mark is going to have some custom made 1/4" thick steel plate cut and welded with studs and all should be good in the world. We test fitted the engine and figured that would be our best bet, and 1/4" thick steel shoul be strong enough.

Very interesting. I wonder if S&P will take the plates back. Anyone ever try returning anything with them?

Yeah, I am a little skeptical of a 1 size fits all so I opted to custom fab my own out of 1/4" steel plate to work with the old frame mounts. Strong as heck too. Good Luck with your vette

I would make custom plates.. they are not rocket science and most the benefit of the S&P ones is that they are pretty

I went with a modified version of the BRP ones as they moved the engine too far forward..

S&P should take them back.. ive returned stuff there before.

They also don't tell you that they don't fit with the cmaro a/c bracket. Took a little modifying with the torch and grinder.

Default S&P LS1 Motor Mount Plates

I just finished installing a LS1 in my 69 Camaro using S&P plates and they worked fine. I used stock 350 rubber motor mounts and the bolt holes lined up with no problem.

I've also ordered several parts from S&P and have found them to be a good Company to deal with up to this point.

I'm attaching a picture of the install.

Good luck,

Chuck
