Wiring Harness Modification Ok I am sure this has been asked a million times so here is million and one.
I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 305 and 4L60E, swapping 2001 5.3 from a Suburban, I have the ECU and wiring harness from the Donor vehicle. I was wondering should I use the 2001 Harness or my 96 and add what i need from the donor harness. I have been doing some research and have found a few companies that want me to send them both the original harness and the harness from the donor vehicle and ECU and anywhere from $750 to $1000 and they will make me a plug and play and all my gauges and check engine light will be working. just plug it into the firewall bulkhead, ECU and go. Seems kind of pricey.
I know there are a lot of stand alone harness out there that will get me up and running, but what about the HVAC, Speedo, Tach, CEL, so on and so forth.
Really trying to decide if i want to tackle this wiring myself or not..

I used a PSI wiring harness in my 94 chevy and was able to get all the gauges to work. I didn't have a harness so that's why i went that route. If I would have had the stock harness I would have just modified it myself. They're plenty of write ups on how to do it. Check out Lt1swap.com and LS1truck.com
