I've never seen side exits on an A body before.

The wagons and El Caminos came with that exit style from the factory and it looks real good on these cars. The 2-door version of the exhaust system has tailpipes that exit out under the rear bumper.

When is the tentative release date for the 2 door Chevelle/Malibu coupe exhaust system?

This pic will give you guys a better idea of the system geometry looking at it from the front of the car...both the 2-door and long wheel base systems share the same geometry all the way over the axles with the tailpipe geometry being the only major difference between them. The header adapter legs leading into the X-pipe are custom pieces that are shown here and are something I just made up for the owner of the wagon that was borrowed. It does show however how easy the systems can be adapted for use behind a SB or BB Chevy also.

Will these headers fit in a 66 GM a body (gto) with the 12611hkr plates? With my setup in place and all components tied together, I don't want to go moving the engine forward or backward at this juncture.

I really can't say either way old66tiger as I've not personally seen the headers on anything other than an LS engine mounted in 68-72 A-body cars using the new specific Hooker engine brackets developed with the headers. I will be embarking on the development of 66-67 A-body swap system here shortly, so new headers will be part of that effort if these do not fit.

Todd,

I didn't even notice the clever way in which the crossmember is designed to mount. On my GTO crossmember removal is a pain because unlike Chevrolet crossmember, Pontiac used extra rubber isolators at the frame.

Yes Andrew, I had to create a work-around for the crossmember mounting due to the installation constraints imposed primarily by the T56 and 4L80 transmissions.

I have tried the Hooker long tube headers with my 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible. we are using an LS3 create engine from GM and a T56 six speed. Also using a Quick time bell housing. We are using the stock trans. crossmember, but had to re-locate the mounting tabs on the frame for the cross member. The Headers hit the floor board and the oil filter. Also, the Quick Time flanges will have to be trimmed to allow the headers to fit. Regretfully, I sent them back.

I believe you are speaking of the previously existing Hooker A-body headers, of which the part number escapes me at the moment.

It would be virtually impossible as you have to use offset inlet mufflers as a start on A-bodies to provide clearance between them for the driveshaft, unless you want to drop the tubes coming from the X crossover out from inside the tunnel so you could spread them open, which would severely decrease your ground clearance. The double offset outlet is also pretty much a necessity for 3" tubing to clear the upper control arms and a rear sway bar.

Upon further evaluation, I believe you could use a center-inlet muffler on this system by modifying the X-pipe outlet legs, but you still wouldn't be able to use the center outlet unless you were going to run dumps on the end of the mufflers.

For those that have been waiting on the Hooker stock location engine brackets, I'd like to report that they showed up on the "on the shelf" report this morning.

Toddoky. Do you know how wide the transmission support bracket is? I am thinking of putting the Holley unit on my 65 Skylark. It appears to be a whole lot lighter than the one I have.

Yes, it's 55" in overall length and 54" between the bolt hole centerlines of the mounting feet.

Thank you sir, I have been worrying the toll free number for two weeks, and BIG thanks for putting all of this info and process out here on the forums for us to watch the progression.

My pleasure ycgoat, I know if I was doing a swap I'd also appreciate having photos and similar product information that told me what the benefits and results of installing a collection of parts on my car was going to be before I purchased them.
