Default 66 Buick Special

been a while since I messed with LSx stuff but here's the new toy. 1966 Buick Special 2dr hdtp I picked up from an old friend. Car is REAL solid with only a small amount of typical A-body rust around the back glass. Going to stay simple with the running gear for now and do a 5.3/4L60 swap. With the 3.08 gear it'll be a highway beast but I'll probably end up with a 3.42 or 3.55. Already started ordering suspension pieces for it and it will be coil-overs on all four corners with a ton of UMI pieces holding it together. Hoping to have it ready for the Daytona Turkey run next year.

Great Platform. My first car was a 67. Can't wait to see this thing up and running.

Read about the Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering box, faster ratio and metric lines. Congratulation on AC, Some of the truck motors came with a Denso 10S17F or a 10S20F that has a fixed displacement that may work with your system.

Been quite a while since I put anything on here but I finally got pretty busy on the car the last few months. Suspension is done for now(arms, springs and big sway bars) got some wheels on it and in a streak of ambition, last week I took the stock motor/trans out. 5.3 is ready, 4L60e is fresh built, converter is tightened up enough........now I gotta smooth the firewall. Probably going to a sheet metal intake and a terminator x max control system. Fun, fun!

Wheels and tires fit good! 18x8 and 18x9. They said it wouldn’t fit!

Ready to come out

Plenty of 54 year-old dirt!

Ready to go in

Supposed to hold 600hp..........lol

Lost in space!!

More 54 year-old dirt!

More work. Had to pull the right front fender and inner fender off just to get the damned evaporator out if the cowl. Gee thanks GM. Waiting on my metal to start filling the holes in the firewall for the new vintage air. My 5.3 growled at me today when I walked past it........impatient sob.......

How do you plan to control the Vintage Air system? If you are hoping to use your original controls the fan switch is a little tricky and extremely hard to find information on. Using the Vintage cable converter for is pretty straight forward, you have to adjust the cable attach point on one of the bracket to get enough range.. I can go into deeper explanation and send you more info if you are trying to keep your dash original, It would be easier just to adapt a Vintage Air control but I'm very happy how mine turned out, and it works exactly how the Buick controls were meant to.

Vintage Air Cable Converter substituted for a Off, Low, Med, Hi Switch

My version, It works well the fan and speeds sound right, Low is noticeably on, Medium sounds half speed and Hi is maxed out.

Not planning to use the factory controls. Going to build a plate to fill that area in and maybe use a broken non-ac control to make it with. I plan to use VA controls.

Been low on motivation but slowly coming along. Got my new floors just about finished and the firewall plate is in place for welding too. Got stupid and decided to start painting on my frame as well so it just gets deeper.

Been a minute but the motor is running on Holley’s base tune. Got my shifter all hooked up and was able to run the tires forward and reverse on the Jack stands so that was encouraging. Having brake issues right now so I’m not quite ready to put it on the ground and let it roll on its own yet. Did a 4-wheel disc conversion and having issues with the rears and pedal travel. I’ll get there though. The motor identifies as a Buick now. Also for the guy that asked, here’s how I put the vintage air control in to my stock control bezel. It works!

One thing you may want to look at is the steering shaft: it is solid box to steering wheel. Guess where it goes in a crash?

67's has a semi-collapsible unit which is far safer.

Is this a Gen 4 5.3?
