Getting this turd back out. I put an LS3 with a single S369 in it, very responsive, perfect for this setup. I replaced the stock original 1964 steering box with a little tighter steering box that is new (Burgeson Saginaw 525) and (16:1 vs 20:1) and the steering is much more controllable. Im working on getting the body work back on and the floor/firewalls finalized then I can finally start driving it on the road longer distances.
I put some junk tires I got from a Biscayne roller I bought and it will 0-60 3.0-3.1 pretty easily over and over on bad roads. Im hoping I can get it on the road soon and put the 555s back on and find some clean concrete to try out.

Have you looked into the TBSS tcase at all? Its supposedly all mechanical as well but a little newer. I am researching what it takes for an AWD C10. Really interested in pics of the drivetrain. Did you have to customize shafts?

I haven't looked at TBSS transfer cases much, I saw the Polish guys using the old 4473 in their 7 second awd Corvette and figured it was strong enough, I don't think they made any changes to it.
Like the 4473 being in family vehicles like Astrovan and Bravada and being cheap, I think the TBSS came in some more mundane vehicles too so shouldn't be too expensive.
If trying to be frugal, the biggest point in deciding a xfer case is what trans are you willing to use that bolts up to the case cheaply. I am a th350 fan so that made it pretty easy for me since just cutting the output shaft shorter with a sawzall and an $80 adapter bolts them up. If a TBSS xfer case bolts up to a 4l80 cheaply then that would be a big win in a heavy truck...I think it is a 4l60 derivative though on those stock, which is pretty crappy.
I did have driveshafts shortened, there is a lot more info and pics on the first page of this thread.

Took it to the dunes for a quick try
It did great except it bent both front upper control arms. They're stock so its not hugely surprising, it still ran around ok like that but the pinion angle was nuts.
