Default Torque converter stall

I just started my 5.3 swap into my 94 mustang. Got the engine and built th400 trans. With a cam at 224/232 duration at .591/.591lift and 115lsa what would be a good stall converter that would give me peak power transfer without it falling on its face? Any type of advise would be much appreciated. Will start my build thread soon once I get some more parts

Right on and I keep hearing more and more people saying that with the bigger cams higher the stall the better. I still want it to be somewhat of a cruiser. But much appreciated for the input.

With a cam that size in a 5.3, I would go with a 3600 stall. Don't cheap out on the converter though. It can make or break a build.

I definitely WONT be cheaping out on a converter. What some good names? B&M. FTI. I basically just need a good quality company who will stand behind them

I also hear your rear end gear ratio has a lot to do with factoring your stall as well. I have 3.55's. I'm still new to automatic transmissions when it comes to choosing stall size. All other builds I have had were manuals. An input is much appreciated

If you want it to be a cruiser still, consider that if you get a quality converter it will still be relatively tight around town under part throttle conditions. Cheaper ones will slip more under light load. I have a Yank I paid dearly for but works great.

Good to know thanks! Another thing I'm running into is, I have the th400, most of the converter are for different transmissions. Do they interchange or what's that all about?

Some interchange but most don't. I would call the builder first to discuss the trans and flywheel application. I don't recommend buying one online without talking to someone first.

Something a th400 doesn't have so don't worry about it.
