Default 4l80 Converter

Hi all,

Ready to buy the converter for my build but need assistance as to which stall speed to get.

69 Camaro
lq4/6.0 with 243 heads
4l80e
228, 113 lsa cam
3.42 gears

Will be a weekend car, occasional track.

I was thinking the yank 3200? Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if there is a thread with this info already I'll gladly check that out.

thanks!

I have had several different converters in my car. My favorite all around converter so far has been the Circle D 2C (3200) stall converter. I think it drives the best and still allows the car to run hard.

I have nearly the same engine combo but a 4l60e and 3.90 gears. I have a yank ss3200 and it's about perfect. I can even drive it in the snow. If you're light on the throttle it'll drive like a stock converter. If you get into it, hold on! It'll flash and destroy tires!

Thanks 98gt, I'm really leaning towards the yank ss3200 although I've heard great things about the ss3600. Decisions...decisions. Lol

It is just a matter of what is most important. Do you like the tighter feel, or do you want to squeak out that little bit better performance. I would predict the 3600 might be about 1 tenth of a second quicker in the quarter mile than the 3200.

I have not personally used Yank products. I have been using Circle D for lock up converters on my stuff.

With the weight of the car, engine size, and cam, I would say 3200-3600. The Yanks are a little on the tight side of converters IMO, but I have no experience with Circle D.

Hey Jimmyg, that's exactly what I ordered a couple days ago. Thanks for the info!

Speedtigger recommend the same one.

I also went with a 3000 Circle D. With VVT I don't necessarily need a very high stall and I was more worried about having to deal with an irritating loose converter. I can't wait until the roads clean up so I can try it out!
